TRANSPORTATION MANAGER

 JOB SUMMARY:

This hands-on position is responsible for the day-to-day efficient and profitable operation of the Paducah Transportation Department ensuring accurate on time deliveries, organizational & regulatory compliance, vehicle and associate safety, and managing functions to meet goals on all criteria.  Supports other functional areas for division goals achievement.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Planning and Directing:  Anticipates, analyzes and troubleshoots problems with deliveries and devises cost-effective and legal solutions; and acts to implement same.  Interprets state and federal regulations and ensures compliance with all internal and external policies and procedures.  Ensures optimum delivery reliability to the customer by developing efficient and effective production flow processes and identifying process improvement and cost reduction strategies in line with business objectives.  Performs other related projects and tasks as required.

Personnel:  Counsels, consults, communicates, instructs and monitors direct-reporting associates in (department & company) practices, policies and procedures.  Supports Transportation Supervisors to include hiring, disciplinary counseling, and terminations.

Customer Service:  Monitors production goals; maintain a zero error attitude to ensure accuracy and customer satisfaction.

Loss Control:  Manage inventory losses by identifying any inconsistencies, determining their causes and implementing appropriate changes to ensure division loss is kept at a minimum.  Oversees investigation of all vehicle accidents and chairs Accident Review Board.

Reporting and Analysis:  Analyze daily performance measures; identify any weaknesses, and recommend changes to the VP of Operations to ensure that division/Company productivity objectives are achieved.  Analyzes expenditures and other financial information in order to develop plans, policies and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

· Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent required, Associates or Bachelors degree in Business, Logistics or related field preferred.

· Minimum of five (5) years transportation supervisory experience including budgetary responsibility and strong leadership skills with broad knowledge in distribution and thorough knowledge in Federal and State DOT regulations

· Must be DOT qualified or able to become qualified upon accepting position

· Strong competencies in planning, people development, analysis, communication, results oriented, initiative and interpersonal effectiveness

· Must have proven capacity to gain the confidence and respect of associates, colleagues, and management

· Requires high degree of accuracy in math calculations and statistical analysis of data

· Ability to balance multiple high priority tasks simultaneously in an organized and efficient manner with the perseverance to overcome obstacles and work under pressure

· Exceptional customer service and issue resolution skills

· Strong computer skills, Microsoft Excel proficiency required; PowerPoint, Word and Access preferred

· Previous experience with RoadNet and XataNet or other automated routing system and onboard computers strongly preferred

· Able to quickly acquire knowledge of Paducah distribution center operation

· Must support and demonstrate USF Core Values

· Must have a “Fully Meets Expectations” or above performance rating in current position
