Design Production Engineer

JANUS et Cie, a reputable, design-focused leader in the furniture industry is currently seeking a Design Production Engineer in their Carpinteria, CA office.

For nearly 30 years JANUS et Cie has offered sophisticated, high-end indoor and outdoor furniture in various locations across the nation, catering to four different markets. The person in this role will manage the overall project, design and technical development efforts of one or more product portfolios related to the high-end interior and exterior furnishings industry.  Their efforts will ensure quality, cost, and schedule adherence, all while functioning within an integrated operating environment including sales, marketing, fulfillment and financial expectations and guidance.  This candidate is ideally familiar with design-to-cost, design-for-manufacturing, and other cost aware methods, with a target user demographic of the most discriminating end users, specifiers, and custom-driven project managers. 

Key Responsibilities:Act as the PDL (Product Development Lead) for all product development activities; Serve as the point person/project liaison from initial concept through product start, including direct communication with manufacturing facilities around the world; Review and critique product design concepts, enhance as necessary, and translate into a CAD language appropriate for various manufacturing partners; Manage both internal and external resources to support product development efforts; Work with market and channel resources to identify specification processes, and communicate those to appropriate manufacturing partners; Be aware and take advantage of industry trends and technological advancements; Review costing/feasibility standards of each development project and suggest alternatives to reduce cost while maintaining functional and design expectations; Lead and champion all product development and engineering meetings and mile post updates (design reviews, production meetings, final engineering reviews, prototype reviews); Identify and manage around technical risks and material tolerances 

General background:Proficient with CAD and 3D software/visualization skills (Form Z, StudioMax, SolidWorks, Alias, Adobe Creative Suites). Knowledge of other engineering-related disciplines is beneficial (material, mechanical, etc.); Knowledge of engineering documentation development; Knowledge of engineering project management disciplines; Strong communication skills to clearly communicate product designs to technical and non-technical team members, some with English as a second language; Ability to resolve technical problems with minimal supervision; Ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects and shifting priorities.  

 

Some international and domestic travel may be required from time to time.
