STAFF ACCOUNTANT

The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for assisting in the monthly financial close, internal and external reporting and forecasting budgets. The essential elements of the position include, but are not limited to;

 

1.  Prepare reconciliation of balance sheet accounts including cash, accounts receivable, fixed assets and accounts payable. 

2.  Prepare account analyses of balance sheet accounts including prepaid expenses, other assets, supplies, inventories, goodwill and permits, notes payable, accrued disposal costs, accrued expenses, other liabilities and equity. 

3.  Prepare daily cash availability flash report. 

4.  Prepare daily assignment sheet for bank. 

5.  Assist in daily cash management functions. 

6.  Assist in the preparation of the year end financial statements. 

7.  Prepare analyses of income statement accounts as required. 

8.  Close the books each month. 

9.  Prepare an annual budget. 

10.  Prepare and post monthly journal entries. 

11.  Prepare reports to help management understand how the company is performing. 

12.  Performs other assignments as assigned by management.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

· High School diploma or equivalent

· BA/BS Degree in Accounting or related discipline (strongly preferred)

· Proficiency in Windows based applications

· General Accounting knowledge

· Strong knowledge of Excel

· Communication skills

· Able to maintain confidentiality

· Able to prioritize between multiple tasks

· Able to recognize and investigate unusual amounts on financial statements

· Responsible for reading, understanding and following applicable narratives pertaining to Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements.  Also responsible for reporting to supervisor (a) potential control deficiencies noted (b) procedural changes that have or may occur which may require update to SOX documentation and (c) suggesting improvements to the financial control environment.
