MAINTENANCE WORKER

NATURE OF WORK

The incumbent in this position is responsible for making repairs throughout the Boys and Girls Club of STOF facilities. This is skilled work in several trades’ areas in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds. Under close to general supervision, performs a variety of general buildings and grounds related work at an assigned facility.

Performs a variety of facility maintenance work in order to ensure a clean, safe environment, minimize major repair/replacement costs and/or extend the useful life of equipment and fixtures.

 

Sets out temporary traffic control devices at the work site in order to provide a safe work environment and facilitate safe, efficient traffic flow.

 

Maintains landscaped portion of grounds, to include occasional removal of exotic plants from the natural areas of the site.

 

Cleans and maintains the boardwalk in safe condition and in good repair.

 

Cleans all buildings, to include offices, restrooms, gallery, etc.

 

Cleans building exteriors as needed.

 

Makes minor repairs to facilities, buildings as needed.

 

Prepares a variety of log sheets in order to document work activities, track equipment usage and provide summary information to management.

 

Maintains a variety of landscape and construction related equipment in order to ensure that the equipment operates safely and appropriately when needed, extend the useful life of the equipment, minimize down time, and minimize major repair/replacement costs.

 

Replaces light switches, ballasts and fuses and performs other minor electrical work.

 

Repairs and makes adjustments to plumbing equipment such as repairing faucet seats, stopping leaks, replacing valves and other moderately complex repairs.

 

Maintains lawns, shrubs and trees.

Removes dirt, rubbish, leaves and all other refuse from grounds.

 

Makes regular inspections of assigned areas to ensure that grounds are appropriately maintained.  

 

Cleans and replaces worn parts on a variety of equipment.

Performs other miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the building and grounds maintenance trades. Knowledge of safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work. Skill in using tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work. Basic knowledge of carpentry, painting, metal work, electrical work and plumbing is preferred.Knowledge of established safety procedures for operating a variety of landscape maintenance related equipment.Ability to operate a variety of tools/equipment associated with performing a variety of general maintenance work.Ability to operate a variety of landscape related tools/equipment.Ability to learn to perform a variety of work activities associated with general maintenance work.Ability to multi-task.Ability to install or learn to maintain electrical equipment, generators and other mechanical equipment. Ability to take accurate measurements. Ability to follow instructions. Able to work flexible work schedules including, weekends, evenings and holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

High school graduate or GED equivalent.  One  (1) to two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds;  or vocational/technical training in maintenance/ mechanical repair or  any combination of training and experience. Must be  able to follow instructions.  Must be able to work flexible work schedules including, weekends, evenings and holidays as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

 

Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Fieldwork will generally consist of heavy physical labor outside under typical southern Florida conditions including extreme heat, rain, humidity and other conditions prevalent in the South Florida region.  Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
