SCOPE OF POSITION
The Senior Safety Specialist reports to the Chief Safety Officer and works closely with Sound Transit Operations, Communications, and Design & Construction Departments on development of Safety programs.  The individual in this position will support project schedules with timely analysis, studies, reports, information, and audits.  This Senior Safety Specialist coordinates with affected jurisdictions on safety plans, documents, procedures and incidents.

Additional Responsibilities will include:
• Monitor and review work of design consultants, suppliers, and contractors
• Develop, implement, and monitor, safety procedures to protect employees, customers, contractors, and property
• Investigate reports of safety violations
• Implement training programs related to safety issues.
• Prepare reports on plan reviews, construction safety, DOSH compliance, trend analysis, ergonomics
• Perform related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
• A combination of education and experience equivalent to a B. S. in Industrial Hygiene or equivalent degree.  An M. S. in Industrial Hygiene or equivalent degree is preferred, and
• 5 years of experience in employee health & safety, and construction safety.  
• Experience as a safety officer, safety engineer, or safety representative reviewing design & construction plans, writing reports, developing safety manuals and procedures, and coordinating with governmental agencies, is highly desirable.
• The ability to originate technical reports, papers and presentations on safety topics, issues, and incidents is an essential component of this position.
• Specific skills include: use of MSWord, PowerPoint, Excel, and design review of drawings, use of safety procedures, understanding of testing procedures, and understanding of construction specifications, principles of system safety, DOSH (OSHA) compliance, and familiarity with regional safety codes of local municipalities.
