Ground Traffic Planner

JOB SUMMARY: Will provide customer support to agents, working with internal coordinators and management to determine capacity availability, identify potential problems and opportunities. This position should support the customer support, dispatch, solicitation and business development and network planning functions, recommending solutions to create efficiencies and profitability.   ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Uses the Pacer online capacity tool to effectively monitor all capacity elements. Capable of maintaining strong relationships with agents. Identifies problems or opportunities and communicates clearly to the appropriate CSR, management team and sales staff for proactive handling. Coordinates with dispatcher daily to jointly develop a truck capacity plan to meet demand and optimize opportunities. Coordinates with sales, customer service, dispatch and management on new and existing customer business and opportunities. Identifies specific zones or areas that are chronically deficit or surplus in capacity and or freight availability and communicates with agents, dispatch, customer service, sales and management. Manages business unit’s daily truck availability and coordinates with CSR and or Dispatchers to ensure best possible loads are covered. Represents the company values and policies. Performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Minimum High School Diploma; Associates degree in Transportation preferred but not required. Minimum 2 years experience in the Trucking Transportation industry as either a Customer Service Representative or OTR Dispatcher is required. Familiarity with geography. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.  Ability to work independently; displays initiative; innovation and creativity. Strong communication skills; customer focus; works well under pressure; team player. Good organizational and process skills; decision making and problem solving; ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Proven PC experience in various software applications to include Microsoft Office and email. Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate appropriate coverage.
