Dock Manager

Position Summary:

 

This position is responsible for managing the consolidation and distribution of packages as well as the loading and unloading of trailers and vans.  Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate parcel sorters.  This position is also responsible for creating a safe work environment including monitoring the maintenance of equipment, conducting pre-sort meetings, and troubleshooting problems on each sort. 

 

Qualifications:

· Manage the performance of direct report employees.  Oversee labor issues, personnel issues, and employee performance.

· Develop and execute an efficient sort process.  Ensure proper handling of packages.

· Communicate with service account representatives about volume fluctuations and potential problems with product.

· Develop and execute an efficient freight handling process to insure timely departure of outbound product.

· Collaborate with staffing agencies and temporary employees on work schedules.  Manage labor to meet budget requirements.

· Verify hours, meals, and rest breaks to meet legal and corporate requirements, and conduct employee meetings, training, and ongoing evaluations.

· Develop and maintain a safe work environment.

·  Bachelor’s Degree.

· Practical field experience with knowledge in shipping and receiving, sorter applications, and offline applications.

· Excellent communication skills and ability to convey information to all levels of employees including local and senior management.  Must be able to build good working relationships and have the ability to multi-task.

· Time management, organizational, self-motivated, presentation and computer skills (Microsoft Office).

· Basic knowledge of United States Postal Service regulations.
