SUMMARY:

 

This person supervises and coordinates activities of workers concerned with receiving,

storing, transporting, shipping, transloading and inventory of products by performing the following duties. This position is located in Sumner, WA.  

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Ø  Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites work flow. Revises schedule according to work order specifications, established priorities and availability or capability of workers and equipment.

Ø  Issues written and oral instructions.

Ø  Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies

and procedures. Distributes paperwork for product to be picked or processed.  Answers questions regarding pick lists, bills of lading and bin replenishment.

Ø  Advises employees on care of goods received, stored, and shipped; proper use of equipment; and related problems. 

Ø  Conducts operations in a manner which promotes safety; maintains clean, neat and orderly work area. 

Ø  Reviews production schedules and related information and confers with department supervisors and/or managers to determine timetable required to ensure product is shipped on a timely basis.

Ø  Confers with supervisor and other department supervisors to determine progress of work and to provide information on the timely shipping of customers' product. Confers with other department heads to ensure coordination of warehouse activities. 

Ø  Contacts carriers by phone in regards to pickup schedules, follow-ups.

Ø  Coordinates the work flow required by staffing agency associates  working in assigned area by checking them in and out at appropriate time, demonstrating to them what tasks have to be done and how they are to be accomplished. Monitors and evaluates individual work performance and makes recommendations to determine continued temporary work or consideration for employment by NLA.

Ø  Writes accident and incident reports as required by Safety Program and Worker's

Compensation.

Ø  Ensures best management of all picking, packing, serial number tracking and customer

specific labels.

Ø  Studies and makes recommendations for standardization of  procedures to improve

efficiency of subordinates.

Ø  Promotes a team atmosphere, maintains harmony among workers and resolves

grievances.

Ø  Conducts performance evaluations and recommends other performance related actions such as verbal and written counseling notices, discipline, and termination of employment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Directly supervises ten or more employees, plus required number of staffing agency associates.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's management policies, mandates and any applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and five years related experience as a warehouse supervisor and/or lead.

 

Language Skills:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent

and to draw and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as

discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and

volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Abilities: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Applications Skills:  Familiarity with Excel spreadsheets and Warehouse/Yard Management Systems would be helpful.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles.
