Vessel Planner

Summary:

Formulates and implements a vessel stowage plan for cargo, directs loading and discharging of vessels and cargo transfer, monitors timely sailings and maintains regular communications with all necessary parties, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Creates vessel stowage plan for stevedore use.

Analyzes stowage specifications and vessel capacity data and performs required calculations to determine appropriate container loading configurations and placement to maximize container capacity.

Maintains vessels on pro-forma schedule (for port rotations and vessel services).

Confers with Marketing Department to coordinate movement of empty containers within area of responsibility.

Expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.

Prepares and maintains required production reports (utilization reports, regional departure reports, restow reports, OPODR (operational departure report), and vessel schedule reports).
Reviews and approves all out of gauge (OOG) and break-bulk cargo handling applications for vessels planned.

Coordinate working and port times with Zim agents to minimize costs (stand-by, over-time, detention, guarantee, and restows).

Ensures vessels meets schedule requirements

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors degree (B. A.) from four-year nautical college or university; or five years related industry experience and/or training.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have experience and knowledge of Stowage System. Must be proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Ship Chief Mate or Masters (unlimited) License required
