Transportation Planner

Position Summary:  This position is responsible for making modal and carrier selections for all customer orders. 

 

Essential Functions:Ability to select low-cost mode and carrier following customer-specific routing instructions and/or routing guides.  Identify and execute complex move opportunities such as truckload multi-stops and pooling moves.  Coordinate & expedite requests, time-specific pickups, deliveries and other special requests.  Daily interaction with carriers and customer personnel is required. 

 

Essential Skills and Experience Required:Understanding of Transportation Operations and Supply Chain Management.  Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast past environment.Strong systems aptitude.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Outlook, Word and Excel.  Proficiency in Microsoft Access is a plus.  Good written and oral communication required. Basic knowledge of transportation rating and invoice processing. College degree in Logistics or minimum 2 years transportation experience.

 Work Environment:  The duties of this job are performed in an office environment, thereby experiencing some minor level of noise due to office equipment.

 Time Requirements:   May require extended hours and/or week end hours in order to meet customer’s needs.
