Logistics Specialist – North American Freight Brokerage Services
Position Summary
Coordinates North American Freight Brokerage activities inclusive of customer service, vendor utilization, shipment execution, and gross profitability. Promotes Horizon Logistics within the market while adding to the portfolio of Logistics services.
Responsibilities Plans and executes brokered shipment activities within North America Reviews projected empty movements to best utilize Horizon Lines equipment. Utilizes and accesses Internet Bulletin Boards (DAT, GetLoaded.com, etc.) Posts available equipment on the Internet bulletin boards Reviews the status of shipments from origin to destination ensuring the delivery commitment has been met; advises customer as needed. Oversees the review, approval and submission of carrier invoice reconciliation process. Coordinates brokerage activity that may include third party ownership of equipment Oversight of shipments that move via multiple modes (including rail), and/or diverse equipment types, and/or operational requirements Supervises contact with the carrier base Participates in carrier contract negotiations and relationship management Develops customer strategies Works with Sales Department to generate new business Supports the development and enhancement of systems and applicationsPosition RequirementsBachelors Degree from a four-year college or university and one to two years of related experience or training; or a minimum of five years experience in logistics or supply chain management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Logistics expertise that includes multiple modes of transportation. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Possesses proven problem analysis and solution development skills. Ability to multitask in a time sensitive environment. Ability to read and interpret related documents and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to interpret instructions presented in a variety of ways, define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel Ability to conduct cost/benefit analyses Demonstrated leadership abilities Horizon Lines is an Equal Opportunity Employer
