Driver Supervisor - Duties and Responsibilities

• This position serves as a key leadership component that manages all aspects of the operation and driver performance. The primary responsibility of this position is to lead a group of drivers and/or be the primary liaison to owner operators. Accountable to coach/mentor these associates to achieve specific safety, key factor, and customer service goals.

• Makes safety-conscious decisions. Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures.

• Responsible for meeting, measuring and tracking on-time performance and for the overall performance of the specific assigned work group.

• Responsible for the day to day execution of the operating plan. Ensure the Transportation Management System is properly utilized updated accurately and promptly.

• Expected to use an open, interactive leadership style to reconcile customer and driver needs, while leading drivers and associates to meet company performance goals. These goals include maintaining an excellent safety record and retaining safe drivers who provide excellent customer service, meeting all customer service pick-up and delivery requirements and achieving equipment performance standards.

• Solve dispatch issues including but not limited to load priority, driver and equipment failures, weather, and customer delays.

• Become knowledgeable on regulatory matters specific to Transportation including records requirements, safety and other legal and regulatory matters. Frontline supervisor for daily safety issues with Company Drivers and Owner Operators. Ensure that safety goals are met.

• Establishes solid business relationships and maintains open, accurate and timely two-way communications with drivers and internal associates.

Requirements

 Minimum of 3 years supervising drivers in a truckload or LTL environment.

 A four-year degree is preferred.

 Ability to function in a high-stress environment.

 Solid judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills and a proven record of taking the initiative and responsibility in using those skills effectively, both individually and as a member of a team.

 Ability to evaluate alternatives in order to make best overall value decisions based on considering cost, customer expectations, driver needs, and other factors.

 Strong personal computer skills with particular experience in Microsoft Excel, and Word. Ability to learn and become an expert in the Transportation Management System.
