Credit & Collections Specialist

Job Summary:  This position is responsible for the collection, management and resolution of customer outstanding invoices from past due accounts. Responsible for carrying out the established program for the systematic follow-up and collection of receivables while at the same time maintaining customer goodwill.

 

 

Responsibilities and Key Points Related to the Position:

 Reviews the accounts receivable aging report and customer balances.

 Contacts the customer (via telephone/fax/email/letters) when a customer’s credit limit has been exceeded and/or when invoices become overdue to secure payment arrangements.

 Applies knowledge and understanding of individual customer accounts to efficiently and effectively handle account balances inquiries, resolve account problems, billing disputes, misapplied payments and other issues as needed to provide quality customer service.

 Consults with the Manager and/or other personnel on unusual situations. Documents collection actions by completing forms, reports, logs and records.

 Creates recommendations for review by the Manager on the acceptance of settlement amounts, partial payments, time extensions, and the outsourcing/writing-off of receivables.

 Multitasks various aspects of the position while being able to prioritize daily work load in order to achieve collection goals as well as provide quality customer service.

 Works within a multifunctional team to provide quality customer service while at the same time achieving collection goals.

 

Required knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma. Some college credit is preferred, but not mandatory.

 A minimum of two years commercial collections and accounting experience is required. Transportation collection experience is preferred. Good communication and telephone skills are also necessary.

 Should possess the power of persuasion when needed and be able to remain calm during difficult collection situations.

 Good negotiating and customer service skills are required.

 Proficiency in computer software is required and experience with commercial collection software is preferred.

 

 

Scheduling Requirement:

 Fulltime, Monday to Friday; 8 AM to 5 PM.Overtime required as needed.
