VoIP - Principal Engineer

Play a central role in design and architecture of Covad’s Voice platform to enable the VOIP business line. Emphasis would be on giving comprehensive solutions end-to-end right from order entry to end-user device(s) keeping Covad’s bottom-line in mind.

Provide leadership in driving the development teams’ implementation of company’s business requirements. Assist the development team as and when needed regarding Covad’s vision for the product line.

Provide extensible solutions to work with the latest voice solutions available in the market and to be able to work towards keeping Covad’s Voice Applications on par if not ahead of its competitors.

Display agility in embracing new technologies to ensure Covad systems stay current. Special emphasis on new protocols like SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) as well as new voice devices.

Continuously explore and update functional knowledge within the area of VOIP to design, develop and help manage application integration with soft switches and other 3rd party voice service(s) provider(s).

Design, develop and manage applications which are J2EE based or which can integrate with J2EE systems.

Should have excellent verbal and written skills to be able to communicate effectively with various teams ranging from Network Engineering to Product Development to Business Users and Software Development teams.

Job Requirements:


Sound working knowledge of at least 1 or more soft switches, specifically Sylantro and/or Broadsoft Network Server and good integration experience.

Good working experience using and integrating with 3rd party voice feature servers; features like Voicemail, Conferencing, Fax, etc.

Design and implementation of operations specific software using Java technology, specifically – Web Services, EJB, Servlet, JSP, server side development, client/server technologies, web applications and applications servers.

UML, UNIX environment, and Oracle database.

Good enterprise architecture sense to ensure seamless systems integration Bachelor’s degree in CS, EE or related and 7 years of experience in job offered or in Voice Applications Development and Design; or Master’s degree in CS, EE or related and 4+ years of experienceDivision/Department : Operations
