Video/Network Technician

AAN is seeking applicants for an entry level position supporting its mission to provide technology services.
AAN is a not-for-profit organization supporting advanced telecommunications applications including video conferencing, video streaming, video mixing, VoIP, private data connectivity and Internet access primarily to health care institutions, government and schools.  In order to provide these services, AAN maintains a large Wide Area Network.  We also provide consulting for a wide range of applications.

Video services including video conferencing, video streaming, and video mixing are utilized by AAN members.  AAN provides all of the necessary infrastructure and systems to enable video conferencing including multipoint conferencing, access to ISDN, and Gatekeeper registration.  Video conferencing is actively supported by AAN personnel in order to assure reliable high quality conferencing.  AAN utilizes both permanently installed solutions and portable equipment to provide video streaming. AAN utilizes portable carts with all the equipment necessary to provide video capture and streaming prewired.  These carts are used to provide audio and video mixing and to capture and/or stream live from hotels, conference rooms or other locations in which a permanent installation is impractical.  With the portable cart we can capture video at any location.

AAN is the ISP for many of its members and provides all of the network services an ISP would provide.  However, unlike a typical ISP, AAN firewalls its entire network because most of AAN's customers require a high level  of security.  AAN provides its network services using Unix platforms. AAN maintains a large IP network utilizing multiple transport mechanisms including Ethernet, FDDI, Frame Relay, and ATM.

This position will require active participation in the support of video conferencing and video streaming.  Additional responsibilities will be determined by the applicant's abilities and interests.  Successful employees are or will become capable of performing multiple functions within the organization.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a basic understanding of computers and IP networking. While training will be provided initially and some ongoing training is available, successful employees must learn and adapt to changing technologies independently with zeal.  Candidates should clearly demonstrate the desire to excel in technology.  Some knowledge of Unix operating systems is desirable but not required.  Any knowledge of networking beyond a basic understanding of IP is also desirable.

Some travel is required.

Salary will be based on experience.  However, we hope to hire in the $35,000-$40,000 range.  AAN provides a generous benefits package that includes health insurance, dental insurance and a retirement plan in which the company provides $2 for every $1 the employee contributes.
