(www.vanu.com), a leading start-up based in Cambridge, Mass., is the developer of the Anywave® Base Station, the first U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC)-certified software radio for both CDMA and GSM standards. The Anywave Base Station provides significant advantages over traditional cellular equipment designs including: simultaneous operation of multiple wireless standards on a single platform; the use of general purpose, open standard servers rather than proprietary hardware; remote software downloads to add new wireless standards and system capacity; decreased backhaul costs; and a full range of additional capital and operating cost savings. These benefits come from implementing the signal processing functions of the base station as a high-level software application running on Linux, eliminating the need for costly, specialized hardware. The company delivers Anywave radio access network solutions, licenses its software, and provides design consulting to service providers, system integrators, and wireless OEMs. Founded in 1998, Vanu is based in Cambridge, MA, with additional offices in India.
Overview:
Vanu is growing and seeks a results driven sales professional to execute effective sales strategies that enable company to successfully penetrate the service provider market. The primary market focus is Cellular Operators in India, Latin America, the Caribbean and North America. The person we seek will build and lead the international sales organization demonstrating outstanding sales expertise, business management skills and strong leadership ability. Ideal candidate has experience selling base station products and experience with the RAN (radio access network). Role:
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be an integral member of the executive management team with responsibility for providing vision and leadership for worldwide sales strategies for this rapidly growing technology company. The selected candidate will have the total responsibility for all sales activities and the development of a successful and productive worldwide sales organization. You will be accountable for, manage and lead the sales team to deliver on their sales objectives. Responsibilities:
- Drive, plan and execute the sales of Vanu’s wireless products and services to wireless service providers.
- Quickly and effectively qualify new sales opportunities and close forecasted business in a timely fashion.
- Lead sales effort in wireless infrastructure space and support company’s strategic alliance efforts to leverage complimentary sales channels and increase business opportunities.
- Manage channel partners and strategic alliances.
- Demonstrate strong account management and negotiating skills with each opportunity.
- Effectively present and articulate advanced product features, benefits and overall product solutions, specifically, communicating how company’s solution can uniquely solve the customer’s problems and add value.
- Maintain and articulate a working understanding of Vanu’s technology and cellular network architecture.
- Understand and analyze customer needs and requirements as they relate to the application of Vanu’s products and services.
- Build and manage the sales organization focused on selling to qualified prospects in their defined territories.
- Lead sales organization through defined and measurable performance objectives.
- Hire management, sales and support staff.
- Manage and mentor the sales team and individual performance.
- Lead and manage continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Develop annual and quarterly sales plans and forecasts in collaboration with CEO.
- Engage in regular business reviews and weekly sales forecast activities.
- Coordinate efforts within the company to meet sales goals.Requirements:
- 10+ years of wireless industry sales experience, with a solid track record selling infrastructure solutions to wireless operators in North America and overseas.
- Experience selling base station products is highly desired and specific expertise with RAN (radio access network) is also highly desired for this role.
- Prior experience having built out international regions and managing overseas sales teams.
- Candidate should have a solid mix of sales, business and marketing capabilities and possess deep understanding, excellent contact base and knowledge of service provider marketplace.
- Solid program management and organizational skills; exceptional ability to manage and drive details, complex contracts and track multi-faceted agreements.
- Demonstrated success in uncovering opportunities, creating customer interest and closing business for a new technology.
- A history of working with established sales channels, strategic alliances and partnerships.
- Detailed involvement in the proposal preparation process and responding to RFIs and RFPs.
- Solid sales management experience, with a minimum of 5+ years experience in a management role at a wireless or telecommunications company.
- Must be a motivated self-starter with strong leadership, planning, forecasting and managerial skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong presentation skills.
- Ability to conduct compelling and concise demonstrations to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time.
- Ability to work hard with a positive attitude and have fun in a dynamic fast paced environment.
- Experienced at working across an organization effectively with his/her peers as well as with employees at all levels.
