Location:  Corporate Data Center – Aurora, IL

Direct report to Director, Data Center Operations

This is a mid-level position that requires at least three years of direct experience.

Datacenter Unix/Linux/SUN System Responsibilities

Systems AdministratorThe Systems Administrator will be responsible for all UNIX-based system administration at Protocol Services, Inc. including Linux and SUN Solaris administration.Installs, maintains and upgrades all Linux systems in the Aurora Datacenter. These systems include:Corporate FTP serversCorporate utility systems Corporate mail serversCorporate DNS/NTP serversCorporate Linux and Solaris Web serversDPS Oracle Database serversCCD Informix Database serversEMC SAN administration and iSCSI/Fiber connections to UNIX-based systemsHas a strong knowledge with Dell PowerEdge and Compaq ProLiant ServersHas experience managing and maintaining Oracle database serversCoordinates all system administration activity with owner of applications that run on these systems. For example, the Director of Network Operations is responsible for the Intrusion Detection systems, and all maintenance activity on those machines should be coordinated with him. Creates and maintains customized RPM/install packages to ensure a uniform environment.Has a strong knowledge of network services including NFS, FTP, DNS, NTP, IMAP, and qmail.Manage the Nagios alerts system for the Corporate Data Center.Ensures systems are backed up and configured to allow for quick recovery.Has experience using Veritas BackupExec with UNIX-based systems.Migrate and configure existing servers to utilize yum repository in order to standardize all Linux servers.Manages the SYSLOG repository for all audit logging on UNIX-based systemsTune and configure the OpenLDAP directory servers used by qmail for performance and high availability.Manages directory security for FTP using POSIX acls.Maintains proactive approach to system security for all Linux systemsPatches and updates systems with software updates and patches as neededEnsures all UNIX-based systems are meeting compliance specification aligning with ISO17799 standards.FTP server log monitoring and directory managementSymantec Antivirus log monitoring and response coordinationTroubleshoots various software and hardware issues with these servers

Email:  Qmail-LDAP, Courier-IMAP, Dovecot, QPSMTPD, SquirrelMail webmail, SpamAssassin, ClamAV

Software: Symantec Antivirus, MS Office, Cfengine, Syslog-ng, POSIX Acls, Nagios, Yum, daemon tools, LVM2, IPTables, MRTG.
