Systems Engineer-True Carrier Ethernet

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerform network and applications engineering for at least one Ciena productComplete network designs for customer application of Ciena networking products  Proficient in use of Ciena network design and modeling toolsConsult with potential and current customers on application of Ciena products for next generation architecturesPrepare quotations and assist in proposal preparation for switching products & upgrading network design.Provide product and technical expertise to support sales efforts of switching productsPrepare design and applications presentations Interface with sales group and product management/marketing to develop and/or propose product enhancements to meet customer requirementsGain understanding of Siebel30-50% travel requiredPerforms other duties as assigned SKILLSTechnical expertise in data networking including understanding of IP, Ethernet and other data networking protocolsGeneral technical knowledge of fiber optic transmission systems (especially SDH, WDM), telecommunication networks and network management.Excellent verbal and written communications skillsExcellent presentation skillsFamiliarity with test equipment (traffic generators, OSAs, OTDR, power meters, etc) Understanding of telecommunications and datacommunications network architectures Demonstrate working technical knowledge of DWDM, SONET/SDH, OSI reference model, Ethernet, ATM, Frame Relay, IP and MPLS * Cisco, Juniper, ALU, Tellabs routing and switching product experience or key competitor offerings with a focus on carrier solutions required.* Knowledge of relevant solutions sets, product line specifications, performance criteria, applications and competitive offerings.Strong PC skills are required including general knowledge of application programs such as MS Office; Unix knowledge and programming a plusFlexible, able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision   DESIRED CHARACTERISTICSMotivated technical individual that desires to work on application of advanced switching architecturesThe ability to demonstrate experience in technical sales activities Ability to understand customer needs and use technical expertise to develop customer solution Demonstrate understanding of the RBOC operations concerns related to OSMINE, TIRKS, NMA, and NEBs.Ability to develop customer relationships and work well  with customersTeam player EDUCATION/EXPERIENCETechnical Degree; or BSEE or related work experience 2-7 years telecommunication industry experienceAt least 3 years pre-sales experience preferredDemonstrate knowledge of the key and current Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF), IEEE, ITU, and TMF.Prior experience as a contributor on a sales account team   Routing and Switching certifications preferred. Former carrier operations experience a plus.     Company: Ciena Corporation Location: Telecommute Salary/Wage: Base salary plus commission Status: Full Time, Employee Job Category: Engineering Relevant Work Experience: 5+ to 7 Years Career Level: Experienced (Non-Manager) Education Level: Bachelor's Degree Occupations: RF/Wireless Engineering Industry: Telecommunications Services Company: Ciena Corporation Reference Code: Sales TCE
