Systems Architect - UNIX
Telefonica USA, Inc. is currently seeking a professional, experienced architect with cross-domain, cross-functional, hands-on experience across disciplines will provide Level III support, service restoration and problem resolution, change control and deployment (including upgrades/patches for operating systems and middleware; application code changes), project integration for development, test and production environments. Duties include: screen and diagnose client inquiries and problems; troubleshoot to clearly understand problems (root cause determination), solve problems, use operational documentation (runbooks), and escalate problems to third party providers and product vendors for further troubleshooting (where appropriate); monitor internal and customer environment via ESM tools; develop operating system and third party scripts; perform capacity planning and performance tuning; build-out technology infrastructure (hardware and software); harden and lockdown servers; perform vulnerability and security scans; support production control (batch processing) duties as assigned; partner with application development personnel to meet or exceed business objectives and requirements; comply with all operational policies and procedures. Will serve as Operations liaison with all applicable internal parties and external third party providers.
Must have experience on multiple Hardware and Software Environments and be comfortable with complex heterogeneous systems environments. Needed also is an ability to share and communicate ideas both verbally and in writing to executive staff, business sponsors, and technical resources in clear concise language. Must be involved in project at the time of inception and involved in the functional analysis of developing primary requirements. Expert knowledge of various hardware platforms including distributed platforms, desktops, and mobile devices. Must also have skill and understanding of a variety of Operating Systems including a variety of Unix flavors; Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, System V, Linux, Desktop; Windows, Apple OS, Linux, etc. A deep understanding of Databases is also essential with knowledge of Relational Databases; Oracle mainly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Control and ownership of solutions offered to customers (internal or external).
* Support the development and execution of solutions and business plan to support the growth of the solution offered.
* Shape, design and plan services lines within solution area.
* Document the solution designs, architecture for operation.
* Support in some cases the business life cycle for solutions offered.
* Lead implementation and operations teams, following formalized methodologies.
* Collaborate with project managers developing implementations and project plans.
* Serve as mentor, guiding different members of engineering team.
* Set plans to be aligned to IT strategies and planning with company business goals
* Required for on-call duty or after hours support as needed by the company for emergency and non-emergency conditions when requested by management.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
* Excellent client interaction and customer service skills
* Expert knowledge and extensive hands on experience with Tuxedo Middleware
* Excellent knowledge of digital signaling interrupts
* Extensive, hands-on UNIX (HP-UX, Solaris), at least one of them, good knowledge of windows platforms is a plus
* Extensive, hands-on Clustering, Volume management, Virtualization, backups and restore strategies
* Heavy use of UNIX-specific features for process management/control, signal handling, and system monitoring, resources management
* Excellent knowledge of storage and backup technologies
* Good knowledge of Networking and security (Firewall) technologies.
* Excellent knowledge of Linux, Apache, tomcat, weblogic, oracle and related technologies
* Extensive use of TCP socket mechanism
* Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP and DNS technologies. Experience with TCP/IP network analysis and troubleshooting as it applies to Linux/Solaris/AIX/HP-UX environments
* Expert knowledge of Korn Shell Scripting
* Strong shell scripting/PERL skills
* Experience in design, build out, deployment, testing and capacity planning of UNIX/Linux based applications/architectures
* Familiarity with databases Oracle is a plus
* In-depth understanding of security technology and policy is required
* Technical problem solving with conformance to established or proposed policies and procedures
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, IT or related field, technical institution training equivalent and/or 5 years work experience in a technical department (organization), providing technical support requiring daily or frequent interaction with internal and/or external users or customers. Certification in system administration, network, security and/or databases are major plus. Bilingual in English and Spanish is a must.
