Switch Technician II/III
Switch Technician is responsible for the advanced installation, operation, andmaintenance of switching, data communications, and peripheral equipmentassociated with the Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MTSO). Other dutiesinclude coordinating installation, testing, and troubleshooting of transmissionfacilities (OC48, T3, T1, and DSO); troubleshooting, upgrading, andadministering multiple vendor systems; maintaining system applications; ensuringquality customer service; and providing support to a varied user community;updating daily logs with site-specific information; and composing clear andconcise reports for system documentation. The Switch Technician is expected toperform their duties with minimum supervision, and participate incross-functional projects as scheduled. Troubleshoots, upgrades, and administersmultiple vendor systems. Minimum requirements: Associate Degreein Electronics and 4-6 years electronics experience with 4+ years directlyrelated to the job. College hours or a college degree may be substituted forsome experience as deemed appropriate. Desired Qualifications: Must have andmaintain a current, valid driver's license, and have dependable transportationwith proof of auto insurance. Associates degree, 2-year technical degree,relevant military experience, equivalent special electronics training, orequivalent work experience is required. Minimum 1 year experience pluselectronics training in one or more of the following fields: telecommunications(cellular or landline) switching systems or experience in LAN/WAN operations andIP connectivity is preferred. Intermediate training in at least 3 of thefollowing areas: data communications, digital communications, operating systemsand applications, telecommunications, computer support, project management,and/or power. Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems, stored programcontrol, and power is required. General knowledge in the use of electronic testequipment is required. Experience and knowledge of transmission facilities(OC48, T3, T1, and DSO) is required. Strong computer skills with emphasis onapplications are required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook isrequired. Experience in Nortel Networks CDMA equipment is preferred. DMS250/500,PMSC (Packet Switching), RNC EVDO networks, PP8600, etc.. Unix experiencepreferred. Shift work and on call duties required.
