Redback is positioned to be Ericsson’s main force in the IP technology area. The Lowell, Massachusetts team will be working on next generation solutions that will make a significant impact within the market. JOB PURPOSE: Evaluates reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production. Uses engineering concepts and engineering practices and procedures to solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways.  Required Specific Previous Experience: Develop diagnostic tests to increase coverage of embedded processor based router blades. Work with hardware engineers to identify areas requiring additional coverage and develop test strategy. Specific areas include power on diagnostics, chip level functional tests and system level functional tests. Experience with C and an embedded OS is required. Ability to produce diagnostic test specifications is required.  KEY DUTIES: Creates implementation specifications and test plans from conception to completion. Creates design specifications and product documentation with no supervision. Develops unit and feature test plans both in simulation and lab. Reviews test plan of others. Troubleshooting problems of diverse scope where refinement of design/requirements will be necessary and is expected to drive resolution of requirements. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Experienced in a variety of disciplines in technical domain, possibly focusing on a particular expertise. Significant contributions to a large product team or a technical lead of a small project. Pro-active communication inside product team. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain the cooperation of others. Is able to effectively communicate work to peers and junior staff. Be prepared to support customer or manufacturing issues. Communicate test scenarios to facilitate problem resolution. Provides technical leadership on small projects and mentor more Junior engineers.  FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL SKILLS: Extensive knowledge of networking protocols. Experience in hardware design and troubleshooting. Responsible for refining requirements and development of modules. Able to properly scope complexity of projects and assess resource requirements.  QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a BS/MS with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
