Position Description:

Clearwire, founded in October 2003 by telecom pioneer Craig O. McCaw, is a provider of simple, fast, portable and reliable wireless high-speed Internet service. Clearwire customers connect to the Internet using licensed spectrum, thus eliminating the confines of traditional cable or phone lines. Headquartered in Kirkland, Wash., the company launched its first market in August 2004 and now offers service in 16 states across the U.S. as well as in Europe.On May 7, 2008, Clearwire Corporation and Sprint Nextel Corporation entered into a definitive agreement to combine their next-generation wireless broadband businesses to form a new wireless communications company to expedite the deployment of the first nationwide mobile WiMAX network. In conjunction with this agreement Intel Corporation (through Intel Capital); Google Inc.; Comcast Corporation; Time Warner Cable Inc; and Bright House Networks have collectively agreed to invest $3.2 billion into the new company. This person will work as part of the WiMAX Technology Development group to architect, analyze and design new mobile WiMAX (802.16e-2005) networks. This individual will be required to exercise a solid understanding of wireless communications principles, including PHY and MAC layer protocols as it pertains to deployment and evolution of the WiMAX network. This individual will work with different vendor companies and:• Develop systems engineering guidelines• Validate the functionality and performance claims of vendors • Interact with cross-functional teams in Technology Development, Network Engineering, Product Development, etc. • E2E Architecture: Analysis, evaluation and services evolution planning• Work directly with vendor technology assessments • Play an active role in alpha and beta market testing in the field and validate network performance and assumptions Position Requirements: This position will require a very focused, energetic, and proven leader in WiMAX systems engineering. Minimum Bachelors of Engineering; MSEE preferred & higher degrees an asset. • 5+ years of Radio Access Network -related experience ( Link budgets, RSSI and C/I cross plots, system acquisition, handoff, paging, access performance requirements ) – system design, integration, operation and testing, including good understanding of current wireless access/backhaul technologies (EV-DO, OFDMA, CDMA2000, 802.11x., etc.). • Working knowledge and experience in WiMax 802.16e a plus• In depth knowledge of OFDMA systems a strong asset• Proficient with analytical tools like MatLab, OpNet, C/C++ a plus• IP networking experience is a strong asset• Familiarity with basic lab equipment (spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, etc.) and systems integration experience is highly desirable.• Outstanding track record with successful vendor management of outsourced contractors• Track record as a problem solver & effective leader • Excellent communications, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills• Flexible person with the ability to manage stressful situations and adapt to changing environments.
