Senior Software Engineer

Job Description

 Guide subsystem design.Ensure projects follow agreed architectures.Participate in the recruiting process by attending career fairs and relating project experience to potential candidates. Interview candidates as requested by supervisor.Recommend changes to the product specifications, design and documentation.Identify technical risks and mitigations at the project level.Will be assigned to 1 or 2 projects.Reports to Project Manager – Technical.Participate in project planning and budgeting process as requested by supervisor.Provide regular status reports as requested by supervisor.Will identify issues as encountered.Participate in intra-engineering phase transitions.Provide customer support, bug fixes and training for customer specific project or for assigned subsystems.Write assigned sections of proposals. Provide QA on customer proposals, RFP responses, etc.Make build vs. buy recommendations at the project/vendor level.Other duties as requested by supervisor.

 

Requirements

 Support principle engineers in implementing best practices at the team level.Ability to work on one or two projects and appropriately manage effort on each project.Reports to a single engineering manager.Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills.Some knowledge of various system architectures and how to design and implement systems to these architectures.Ability to make presentations to various technical audiences within engineering.Ability to perform day to day tasks with little or no mentoring support from other senior technical staff. Ability to mentor more junior members of technical staff.Appreciation of architectural issues for currently assigned project.Ability to work with minimal supervision.Will expand personal knowledge based on areas recommended by others and on interests.Will design individual subsystems as required by project plan. Will specify and design test harnesses/fixtures.Strong technical leadership and interpersonal skills.Knowledge of change control, development and test tools. Contribute to and implement project plans. Recommend engineering process improvements e.g. document formats, design process, etc.Strong process orientation (e.g., to produce quality engineering artifacts and documents, to follow development process, etc.).Strong knowledge of required implementation techniques beyond immediate project needs.Leadership in understanding and following existing processes.Assist in creating a service culture for customer satisfaction.Capable of writing/reviewing all engineering product documents.BS in a related field.At least 3 years experience in development/integration of telecommunications / data communication products.Good knowledge of engineering best-practices in specialized area.
