Senior Network Engineer

Position Description:

This incumbent in this position functions as a key member of the Network Engineering team, acting as a senior engineer in support of present and future converged voice, video and data networks supporting the BT Conferencing, Video Business Unit enterprise and it’s clients and partners.  The Senior Network Engineer will lead efforts with colleagues and clients to plan, design, implement, operate, and optimize Cisco Unified Communication solutions both existing and new.

 

Successful candidates will possess extensive knowledge of Cisco Enterprise class switches (65xx, 3xxx, etc.) routers, firewalls, wireless and voice solutions. Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks within established scope, budget, and timeline is critical.  Expert level knowledge of LAN / WAN architecture and design to include routing, switching, security, QoS, and monitoring/management policy is imperative.  Client implementation experience as project or technical lead is a plus.

 

Primary responsibilities include:

 

· Provide expert level knowledge in TCP/IP network infrastructure in a complex, high volume, mission critical converged network environment.

· Execute technical design, engineering, implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting of networks and related systems.

· Evaluate network voice and video readiness.

· Pre-sales evaluation, design and other client related engineering efforts.

· Pre and Post sales network design and implementation in support of Cisco TelePresence and other immersive and non-immersive real time video communication solutions.

· Provide top tier support to Operations and Helpdesk personnel.

· Provide assistance with inter-departmental and intra-departmental projects as required.

· Mentoring and development of junior team members within the Technology department.

· Maintain clear documentation on networks and related systems.

· Other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Experience

· Minimum of 2 years experience with design, configuration and installation of enterprise Voice over IP systems, including Cisco Call Manager, Routers/Voice Gateways and other solution components.

· Minimum of 5 years experience with administration, implementation and troubleshooting of IP routers, layer 2 and layer 3 switches and firewalls.  Cisco experience is a requirement, Juniper experience a plus.

· Extensive experience with design, implementation and troubleshooting of IP network routing policy, including experience with EIGRP, BGP and OSPF.

· Experience with design, implementation and troubleshooting of IP network QoS policies supporting real time traffic.  Voice QoS support is a requirement, video a plus.

· Experience with WAN networking technologies; including PSTN / ISDN, Frame Relay and MPLS.

· Experiencing conducting network readiness evaluations.

· Experience in the definition and administration of IP network usage and security policies.

· Knowledge of network management / monitoring systems and policies.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both technical and business audiences.

· Strong organizational and time management skills, with a high degree of initiative and self guided work management.

· Desire to develop new technical knowledge and professional skills on a continuing basis.

· Experience with videoconferencing systems and protocols a plus.

· Current Cisco CCNP, CCVP or CCIE certification required, CCVP or CCIE preferred.

· College/Technical degree desirable.
