Responsibilities: Provide high-level mechanical/HVAC/fire protection/fuel/life safety system consulting services to IBX Ops Group, and other cross-functional groups, which includes providing Sales Support on high power density deals. Perform regular analysis/audit of HVAC systems designs and/or maintenance practices to maximize availability, and reduce single point of failure. Strategize Policy, Process, Standard, and Procedure for consistency and maximum system availability. Review and assist in preparation of detailed scripts for critical maintenance activities. Provide technical review and oversight of consultant's work associated with IBX construction and expansion projects. Develop and maintain standard design and specifications, updating them as needed. Participate and direct in the selection of long-lead equipment. Implement and manage processes to assure quality control during design and construction phase of the projects. Lead design decision-making in a manner that supports the reliability/availability objectives for the IBXs. Provide mechanical/HVAC system design upgrade or modifications. Oversee the commissioning, integrated testing of all of the mechanical systems for new and retrofitted IBXs. Provide energy efficient solutions to optimize cooling systems. Ensure "as-built" mechanical documentation is accurate & maintained. Assist in managing the commissioning process including; test procedures, schedule, coordination & "teaming" with on-site IBX Ops Engineering personnel, and impact communication with major stake holders. Develop capital project budgets & justification as required. Occasional "out of State" travel, and other assignments as required. Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies, 24x7, via pager or mobile phone. Provide high-level mechanical/HVAC/fire protection/fuel/life safety system consulting services to IBX Ops Group, and other cross-functional groups, which includes providing Sales Support on high power density deals. Required Skills & Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Minimum of twelve years professional experience with at least five years of experience in data center design, construction, operations, maintenance, and project planning. Emphasis & special focus on Mechanical Systems & Reliability. Comprehensive understanding & application of Reliability Engineering principles. Must be conversant with specialized systems such as HVAC, Chilled Water Systems, Condenser Water Systems, Pumps, Glycols, AHU units, CRAC units, Raised Floor Systems, FP/FA, BMS, and Controls. Should have working knowledge of industry standards, building codes and safety standards including OSHA, NFPA, ASHRAE, SMACNA, UBC, UPC, UMC, ASME. Effective trouble shooting and analytical skills and ability to manage complex & high-risk technical projects under pressure. Must have effective written and verbal communications skills and be able to effectively use spreadsheets, Autocad (or Visio), and project management programs.
