Security Engineer Atlanta, GA 30302 Description:The Network Security Operations Engineer operates, monitors, and upgrades the network security solutions to support Cox Communications products, services and infrastructure nationwide.Qualifications:General Requirements:Self-motivated and able to take on large and complex projects.Demonstrated ability to manage technical projects including time-lines, costs, resources and vendor relationships. Must be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced and dynamic environment.Ability to work both independently as well as on teams. Attention to detail. Creative problem solving skills. Ability to architect, plan, design, implement and maintain security solutions for large Service Provider networks. Ability to convey complex technical security concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.Ability to interact and provide constructive engineering guidelines as well as provide business-oriented outlook and recommendations. Effective written and verbal interpersonal communication skills. Experienced at writing technical proposals and documentation.Education and Experience Requirements:Typical Training / Experience - Typically requires BS/BA in Engineering, Security, or Computer Science and generally 5-8 years of experience in networking/security OR MS/MA and generally 3-5 years of experience in related field. Certification required in some areas Minimum of 3 years experience with Linux/BSD server administration and managementExperience with Perl and/or shell scriptingMinimum of 5 years experience working with complex IP networks and IP protocolsNetworking and Security certifications desirableTechnical Requirements:Given the nature of this position, technical expertise and experience in many of the following technology areas is desired:TCP/IP, OSI - In-depth knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol stack and practical application of the OSI model, including packet headers, traffic flow, ip addressing, UDP, ICMP ..etcLocal Area Networking - In-depth knowledge of LAN administration, Ethernet hubs, switches, VLANs, and physical connections.Wide Area Networking - Working knowledge of routing and routed protocols in a service provider environment, to include static routing, OSPF, BGP, and traffic engineering concepts. Also a working knowledge of the optical hierarchy up to OC-192.Operating systems - In-depth experience with UNIX/Linux with a strong emphasis on BSD and its derivatives. Router switch operating systems such as IOS and JUNOS are also desired.UNIX/Linux system administration - In-depth experience with most common UNIX/Linux services and system administration functions, ranging from shell sessions to specific services (such as Sendmail, Apache, X windows, user/group administration, etc.)Experience systematically managing large number of remote systems using command-line toolsFirewalls - In-depth knowledge of ruleset creation and specific security implications of ruleset modifications in a production setting. IDS - General knowledge of attack detection software such as Snort, Dragon, NFR or ISS/RealSecure.Encryption - Experience with SSH, VPN, PGP, PKI, and other encryption and authentication technologiesProxies - General knowledge of service proxiesCross platform network attack concepts - common probing and attack methods, network/service discoveryKnowledge of common methods of virus and worms propagationKnowledge of cable industry specifications - DOCSIS/PacketCable/OpenCable/OCAPTelephony Security General understanding of both SIP and MGCP protocols, IMS knowledge/experienceTraffic monitoring - Knowledge of IP traffic flow, sniffing/capturing/monitoring live traffic streams.
