Product Marketing Mgr

Leads the efforts in market positioning and launch of NEC's Optical-IP products.  Provides specific input to product planning and feature development by gathering and analyzing market information, via industry knowledge, customer feedback, conferences and internal resources.  Requires the ability to prepare a marketing strategy and collateral in order to convey the product positioning relevant to telecom carrier needs. The ability to cooperate with related internal divisions and departments with the corporation shall be essential.The position also requires a level of external participation on behalf of the company at industry conferences and other events to further the market position of the technology.  On the administrative side, the position requires the ability to analyzing and scheduling manpower needs to further this activity as it progresses.  Works under general direction, receives assignment in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.



  Creates the market positioning of the NEC Optical-IP networking and NGN concept, network architecture and products.  Enable customer key decision makers to understand NEC's direction from the view point of both technology and value add. Creates image of NEC's product in the marketplace, working with Advertising & Promotion agency on the preparation of events, product literature, presentations at the conference and press release, etc. Creates recommendations regarding product changes/improvements through product life cycle, based on market research analysis and market survey, and forecasts potential revenue and profits associated with these product changes/improvements.  Provides information on product operation/specifications/applications and competitive advantages as requested. Develops/conducts' product presentations on assigned product lines and new product concepts/capabilities. Creates competitive product offerings directly to clients through RFXs response process with coordinating NEC team and RFXs response partners to assemble response.  Interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company division or units, or customer and the company. Often must lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team.



Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Engineering or the equivalent, required for a general knowledge of marketing/ engineering principles and practices. Master's Degree in engineering, and/or Business preferred.  Effective communication and presentation skills are mandatory.  Minimum of seven years product marketing/product management and/or system/sales engineering for Tier-1 carrier market is required.  Experience and knowledge of IP/MPLS carrier network systems and engineering.  Experience and knowledge of Optical carrier network systems and engineering.  Knowledge of carrier's operation systems requirements and trends.  Market research/competitive analysis techniques and OS requirements.  Networking certifications (e.g., Cisco, Microsoft), Association accreditation (eg., OSA, IEEE).  Moderate travel of 30%, with occasional periods of 50% during product introductions.
