This is a senior position is responsible for the research, evaluation, recommendation, and implementation of technologies, products and components and provides hardware, software, and systems design as needed to support the environment for embedded Java applications for customer set-top units.

Responsibility:

• Evaluate 3rd party hardware and software
• Research new technology
• Test and evaluate systems, subsystems, and components
• Define coding standards, methodologies, and other departmental processes and procedures
• Define and enforce coding standards and methodologies
• Development of ideas from concept through prototype implementation
• Technical leadership and mentoring of others on the application of new technologies and system development methodologies
• Present and defend architectural, design, and technical choices to internal and external audiences
• Leading the project planning, resourcing, requirements analysis and definition, detailed design, and deployment of a feature or system
• Technical contact and liaison for outside vendors and/or customers • Keep current with technology development within the industry
• Creation of documents for architecture and design, technical requirements and service specifications • Contribute to employee appraisals

Required Skills:
Technical Skills:

• Mastery of Java and/or C/C++
• Mastery of embedded applications/ multi-threaded concepts
• Strong knowledge of OO design/analysis
• JUnit or equivalent unit testing
• Strong knowledge of XML and HTML
• Thorough knowledge of development environments, build systems and configuration management tools (CVS)
• Take the lead role in investigation, diagnosis and resolution of problems encountered; may include the identification and implementation of work around or corrective procedures.
• Demonstrated technical writing skills in support of software development
• Ability to design and code software optimized to run in an embedded environment (server DB normalization too)

• Makes clear and concise oral presentations for internal and external audiences
• Works with minimal supervision • Applies judgment effectively when solving problems and keeps subjective information to a minimum
• Experience with agile development methodologies. SCRUM preferred.
• Fosters and reinforces open communication between team members
• Self-starter able to work quickly and efficiently with little ramp-up time
• Must be a team player with excellent communication skills, both written and oral
• Good communication skills and client interaction experience
• Nine+ years software design and development experience based on management discretion.

Education: Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent job related experience/knowledge as determined by management
