Tellabs is currently seeking an experienced Optical Layer Network Engineer to support its growing Global Services Division. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in the design, architecture, and deployment of a carrier class optical network. This is to include functional experience with fiber types and characterization, link and loss budgets, wavelength, SONET ring, and optical mesh architectures; as well as, a variety of optical equipment and protocols. Responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the creation of Engineering Design Packages (EDP), deployment project plans and budgets, as well as, the maintenance and updating engineering records of the network including network maps, databases, optical schematics, and wavelength plans. Network Design and Implementation. Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to work independently as a lead engineer/project head, be well organized and able to communicate in weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly progress/status meetings with varying levels of management both internally and externally.Qualifications:Candidate must have a solid understanding of the optical network architecture as it pertains to a long haul, metro, and international application.• Fundamental understanding of the specifications of different optical fiber types, optical loss and link budgets, dispersion compensation, DWDM, SONET, & mesh technologies.• Engineering level understanding of 2 & 4 fiber BLSR and UPSR rings, protection configurations, synchronization, and timing specifications.• An engineering and technical knowledge of SONET and optical transport equipment including from various equipment manufactures: (Tellabs/Alcatel-Lucent/Nortel/Ciena/Juniper)• Strong ability to use the full MS office suite of products including Visio.A working knowledge of data, wire line, and wireless networks, layer 2 & layer 3 switching architectures, application layer products and services; as well as, modeling design, and simulation systems are a plus.5+ years experience in an Engineering role for and optical and TDM carrier networks..
