Installation Technical Specialist II

The Technical Specialist II will perform installation, maintenance and repair work at wireless base stations, colocation sites and customer premises environments.  This includes installation, maintenance and repair/replacement of  radios (including microwave, Pre-WIMAX, WIMAX and LMDS), coupled with proven understanding of microwave theory, application, and troubleshooting. The Specialist will have proven experience in entering/updating router configurations, and conducting cooperative testing and troubleshooting with NetEng technicians.  The Technical Specialist will also coordinate base station site maintenance.  The Technical Specialist will display proven understanding of Ethernet and TCP/IP networking, experience working with and troubleshooting LAN/WAN architectures and RF testing protocols.The technician will be proficient with pre-WIMAX and WiMax equipment and expected to troubleshoot this equipment in Covad’s service network and must be available at an on-call basis. 

The Technical Specialist  II must be able to perform additional duties as required including but not limited to project management and technical report writing. The technician must be proficient in the operation of voltage meters and other RF technical support equipment.

Knowledge of central office wiring practices and the ability to isolate and troubleshoot microwave and router problems.

 

Prepare and update installation orders and trouble tickets; manage parts inventory.

Demonstrate knowledge of all Company Policies & Procedures.

 

Carry out routine and special assignments as directed by manager.

 

Maintain a clean and safe company vehicle.

 

Maintain a Safe Driving Record in accordance with Covad’s Motor Vehicle Guidelines.

 

Sound understanding of the use of telco testing equipment, digital meters and computer operating systems.

 

Ability to maintain and upgrade software requirements.

 

Knowledge of customer premise wiring practices, safe drilling and ladder practices.

 

Proficient in the knowledge and theory of router configurations.

 

Ability to maintain and upgrade microwave and router firmware.

 

Knowledge of central office wiring practices and the ability to isolate and troubleshoot network wiring and router problems.

 

Expertise in working with Fixed Wireless equipment

 

Skilled in project management

 

Ability to conduct site surveys

 

Knowledge of the installation and maintenance of WIFI, WIMAX and other wireless antennae.

 

Ability to conduct Base Station audits

 

Knowledgable in the installation and maintenance of fiber and fiber components

 

Well versed on the installation and maintenance of DC power

 

Knowledgable of AC power installations

 

Be meticulous in records keeping.

 

Ability to project management  a variety of multiple site transmission tasks and team initiatives.

Job Requirements:


Proficient with computer hardware and software components

Sound understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP and premise wiring

Provicient in CO environment and equipment

Knowledge of performing Preventative Maintenance

Proficient with equipment mounting, cabling, lacing and card installation

Knowledge of cable types and color coding

Excellent mechanical skills

Solid customer service skills

Analytical and deductive skill sets required

Understands and demonstrates troubleshooting theory

Inventory Accountability

Experience in telecommunications and LAN test sets and testing protocols.

Must have excellent written and verbal skills.

Must be able to comfortably interface with management and customers, both internal and external.

Must have experience with commericial and residential inside wiring practices.

Must be experienced in Wireless and voice services

Must have project management skills

Experienced in conducting Base Station audits and site surveys

Understands Installation and maintenance techniques for WIFI, WIMAX and other wireless antennae

 

Requires a minimum of an Associate's degree in related field or equivalent experience, certifications, or training
