IP Product Engineer - CCNA or CCVP

Position Summary:

 

To design IP/VoIP products and oversee IP/VoIP product introductions and continued support after release.  Responsible for the support of Korea manufacturing, including research and cost justification analysis to determine if trends are appropriate for the US market.

 

Common Essential Duties And Responsibilities 

In this position, either directly or through others, the incumbent will:

 Write general engineering and functional specifications to meet detailed product requirements developed by the product teams in Korea.Review and analyze technical competitive literature to prepare comparisons to existing STA system features.  Make recommendations for added features and services by creating technical reports detailing the ways of putting these services and features into STA products.Provide analysis to determine industry trends and maintain a competitive edge.Participate in preliminary product definition discussions and design reviews with STA product team members and SEC development managers and engineers.Maintain technical currency, as required, to remain current with the latest telecommunications technologies.Contact vendors of products and services that are used in conjunction with STA products, and complete compatibility tests of these products and services to ensure interoperability with STA products.Obtain pertinent technical documentation from various sources relative to new product development to enable STA products to meet general industry standards and regulatory requirements in order to provide competitive product offerings.Assist SEC development teams in designing new products by identifying, locating, and ascertaining availability of component parts used in STA products.Assist the STA technical support group in the resolution of complex services affecting customer problems by identifying the problems and making recommendations to the SEC engineering group on how to resolve them.Participate in the training of technical assistance personnel and provide troubleshooting assistance as required.Respond to questions from customers, Regional Sales Managers, and dealers on technical issues and alternatives.Review vendor contracts and license agreements for final review by corporate counsel.Determine the advantage of outsourcing technologies to meet demands of production, recommend vendors, and manage the relationship.Establish product certification course criteria and provide knowledge base to course developers.As required teach or assist teaching related instructor led certification courses.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Background/Experience

To qualify for this position, the following minimal background and skill levels are required:

 

· A Bachelors Degree in engineering (or related electronics technical training) from a four-year college or university or be in the process of obtaining a degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent work experience.

· Have 7 years experience in the telecommunications and or data networking environments working with high-tech products such as routers, firewalls, QoS models, voice processing, or other integrated products.

· Excellent communication skills are required to write, read, analyze, and interpret technical journals and procedures.

· Requires minimum of a CCNA certification or CCVP certification

 

Necessary Skills/Attributes

The following skills and abilities must be demonstrated at a proficient level:

 

· Develops and maintains excellent working relationships with other engineering and technical support personnel.

· Manages assigned work and plans, organizes, and prioritizes multiple engineering support assignments and projects as directed by the manager of the group and/or other departmental officers.

· Reads, writes, interprets, and acts on a very high level and full understanding of technical documents, engineering test manuals, standards and/or specifications, materials, customer applications, and related documents.

· Demonstrates a very high competency level in communication of technical information.

· Must be able to communicate in writing, through emails and reports, or orally complex technical matters to an audience of equal or higher level technical competency.

 

Physical/Mental Demands and Working Conditions

The position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:

 

· Work generally performed in an office or engineering laboratory environment.

· Requires occasional movement and transportation of equipment, most of the time under 25 pounds.

· Performs work under time schedules and stresses which are normally periodic or cyclical, including time sensitive job stress, fatigue, unpaid over-time, intellectual challenge, constant technical data feedback, language barriers, and product management Stress.

· Noise and/or vibration on a daily basis (high frequency to the ear drums) and R/F Radiation. 

· Requires considerable (75%+) work utilizing high visual acuity/detail, numeric/character and color distinction, and high hand/finger dexterity in a sedentary position.

· Machines, tools, equipment, and work aids which are representative and commonly associated with laboratory product application test work include field test equipment, test devices, cables, prescription safety glasses (which are required in certain test areas), first aid kit, and basic test technician hand tools.

· Operate a computer keyboard and view a video display terminal more than 90% of work time, including their use for prolonged periods of time.

· Frequently works additional hours beyond normal schedule.

· Under moderate supervision where activities are governed by rules and guidelines and decisions are often monitored.  Most work is not directly verified and may involve internal losses or costs to correct.  Some analysis/judgement is required to determine appropriate courses of action. 

· Position has access to confidential data of major importance, such as product schedules, where disclosure may have serious internal or minor external effects. 

· Travel to customer or STA sites 10% of the time or less with occasional travel 50% of the time. May be required to travel internationally.
