For entry to the position of Network Tech 6, an employee must have achieved NCT 5 certification, and completed the NCT 6 training. For entry to the position of NCT 6, an employee must demonstrate progress commensurate with their current tenure as CommTech 5. New employees, with experience who are hired into a CommTech 6 position must complete the training and certification of previous levels, up to and including NCT 6 within the 90-day probation period. The CommTech 6 will be expected to function with an increasing degree of proficiency and a decreasing degree of supervision with regard to those skills and tasks for which training and instruction are received during tenure in this position. 1. Perform applicable CT1 through CT5 duties as needed. 2. Perform advanced headend and OTN maintenance to include: a. System configuration and interconnects b. Forward and reverse combining network management c. Modulation and Forward Error Correction (FEC) techniques d. A/D conversion techniques e. Encoders f. MPEG compression g. Baseband fault isolation h. Down conversion and receiver theory i. Controllers j. Servers k. Commercial insertion 3. Advanced data networking skills to include router configuration, TCP/IP, DHCP, and knowledge of ATM and SONET networks. 4. Perform tower and microwave antenna work 5. During the course of normal day-to-day activities a. Properly operate and maintain installation/service tools and equipment b. Report need for vehicle repair or service when required and/or prescribed c. Report any accidents, losses and injuries or property damage to supervisor and customer when appropriate. In supervisor absence initiate appropriate procedures d. Apply knowledge and skills of training on the job in order to prepare for transition to management or engineering e. Perform FCC proof of Performance testing. f. Digital Headend operation. g. Return and forward combining network design h. Advanced knowledge of data networking to include Windows NT, TCP/IP, DHCP, SONET, ATM, and routers i. Perform other duties as requested by supervisor in order to achieve departmental goals and objectives Work Environment/Physical Activities: • Climb poles, ladders and operate aerial lifts 18 to 20 feet above ground, as determined by the system's requirements • Lift and carry loads of 70 lbs. or more • Work in crawl spaces, attics and permit-required confined spaces; Work while standing 50 - 70% of the time; Perform work near power lines and electricity; Manipulate connectors, fasteners, wire; using hand tools; Drive company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner; Work and travel in inclement weather; Vision ability: close vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus and differentiate colors; Normal work shift may include evenings and/or weekends; may include 10 hour days for 4 days a week; Must be available to work overtime including weekends, evenings and holidays; Ability to manipulate objects such as pens, keyboard and mouse; Exposure to moderate noise level; Exposure to dogs and other animals, construction areas, and the public in general

Required Skills:
• Ability to use basic cable installation tools and hand tools • Ability to perform job from high places (on ladders and/or poles); Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and various state and local codes including G.O. 95 and G.O. 128, (when applicable). ; Ability to read general system layouts from blueprints • Knowledge of cable television products and services • Ability to comply with safety procedures and requirements • Knowledge of basic mathematics • Ability to count and handle U.S. currency • Ability to communicate with customers in a clear and straight forward manner • Ability to work independently • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively • Ability to use basic cable test equipment • Ability to work on a computer • Knowledge of policies and procedures for installation activities • Basic knowledge of cable system operations • Basic knowledge of a cable system overview • Basic knowledge of the history of cable and Comcast • Knowledge of PC hardware, software and the internet • Knowledge of components on the PC desktop and ability to perform the following: - Launch an application - Add a shortcut - Log into and navigate through a dial-up or other internet service - Install software like Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Windows, MS Office applications, educational software or games - Navigate through a file system via the DOS prompt or window interface - Access the Control Panel to configure components such as a printer, modem, and monitor • Advanced knowledge of PC hardware, software and the Internet and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve related service failures. • Ability to use cable distribution, and maintenance tools, hand tools, and test equipment • Ability to comply with safety procedures and requirements • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively • Basic knowledge of HFC network overview to include: digital, data and combining networks. • Advanced knowledge of RF sweeping and balancing techniques in order to diagnose system anomalies. • Advanced knowledge of headend and OTN configuration and maintenance; Advanced knowledge of RF theory and equipment Related Work Experience: • Preferred eight years of CATV or similar experience Training/Licenses/Certifications: Certified CommTech 5 • Valid drivers license and satisfactory driving record • High school diploma or equivalent
