Fiber Engineer - White Plains, NY

Position Summary:

The Fiber Engineer processes network designs into their components including fiber assignments, splice engineering packages, and patch tables. Test data is analyzed and supporting documentation from field construction is verified. The completed network is entered into the Smallworld database. Final as-built drawings are reviewed and filed. All customer networks must be completely and accurately documented.

Responsibilities:

•Convert contracts into a network design illustrated in Microsoft Office Visio; •Splice Engineering Packages for field interconnection of fiber optic cables to accommodate a customer delivery; •Patch Assignment Tables for cable and equipment interconnection at AboveNet facilities; •Analyze fiber test data for customer delivery; •Construction documentation cross-check for completeness; •Customer route representation in the Smallworld database; •Preparation and delivery of customer documentation; •Co-location interconnection authorization and documentation; •As-built CAD drawing review and inventory for storage; •Maintenance of the Fiber Network Locations database; •The individual must comply with departmental and corporate internal controls and all internal controls processes; •The individual must possess and employ the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity; •Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements:

•Technical degree in engineering or science or 3+ years equivalent experience; •Understanding of optical fiber characteristics; •Strong computer, organizational and communications skills; •Telecom experience in network design and outside plant elements is useful; •Familiarity with the following programs: MS Office, VISIO, Smallworld; •No supervisory responsibilities; •Decision making is related to resolution of technical issues with route documents; or test data and improvement of workflow process, methods and procedures; •Work hours are 8:30 am – 5:30 pm; •Infrequent business travel for training or field assignments.
