Position Summary:We’re looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Perl developer specializing in Web Applications, Web Services, building custom toolsets, and full applications development to join the Engineering team responsible for Speakeasy’s Engineering department software applications. As an Engineering developer you will build custom toolsets for departments, assist Network Operations in developing SNMP monitoring scripts/tools, develop automation scripts for bulk change/deletes for various infrastructure elements, and work with several other development teams to automate mission critical software releases on many production systems. The Engineering developer is responsible for developing solutions to aid systems engineers in managing a nation wide network delivering voice and data services. As the Engineering Software Developer II, you’ll be responsible for the quality development of new products and services, of back-end automation, and of highly efficient support tools for Speakeasy’s Engineering and Customer Operations support systems. Your responsibilities include but are not limited to: Develop software using our current application standards in Perl and/or Java. Participate in various phases of SDLC including design, coding, reviews, testing and documentation Utilize design methodologies, object-oriented design and design patterns Connecting disparate systems via APIs or custom interfaces. Work with other teams throughout the company to determine feasibility, business and functional requirements and technical designs on assigned projects Provide ongoing support, maintenance and enhancement of systems The position requires the following skills and experience: BS in Computer science with 3+ years of industry experience 3+ years solid hands-on experience with Perl development in both a web, script, and full application development. 2+ years experience with Perl, Python, and/or Java. We are a Perl / Java focused shop and require strong Perl skills. Successful candidates will be solid in Perl under Shell for Unix automation, Perl application development, and Perl for the Web including SOAP XML over HTTP. 2+ years experience with at least one major application server (JBoss, BEA Weblogic, Websphere, Tomcat…) in a mission critical environment. 2+ years experience with version control systems such as SVN or CVS. Carrying out testing and documentation of all systems developed. Assistance with Software Deployment during off-business hours and the ability to be on call to support production applications deployed. Strong skills in a Unix environment, specifically Red Hat and Debian. Software deployment systems such as Cruise Control and ANT/IVY. 1+ years experience with Perl SNMP Module, or Net-SNMP. Experience with Web Services and XML technologies (SOAP, XSD, XMLBeans, etc…) Experience with and a good understanding of network infrastructure elements such as switches (layer 2 and layer 3), routers (Cisco and Juniper), Firewalls, and Load Balancers. Database experience with Oracle or MySQL Experience with Agile software development methodologies Experience with design patterns and modeling methodologies such as UML Experience with multi-tiered enterprise software application design and development Knowledge of computer network infrastructures, technologies and protocols Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work well independently or within a team, especially cross-functional teams Ability to determine unique and creative solutions to problems within a rapid development environment Speakeasy offers a full suite of benefits, including full medical, dental, and vision coverage (100% paid for employees); a 401(K) plan with a company matching contribution; a transportation benefit; and many other excellent perks.
