Engineer II- Technology and Test Strategy

"Position Summary: This position is part of the Test Strategy and Planning function in the Testing & Quality Assurance (T/QA) Organization in NE&TO. This person is responsible for identifying the Test Strategy and defining the scope of testing to ensure full test coverage for all the Video test initiatives. This person is responsible for understanding the feature and functional requirements of the components and releases to be tested, completing an Impact Analysis based on the Comcast Video architecture and deployment of these features and releases and finalizing the test strategy and test architecture in terms of test approach and the scope of testing to be done by the T/QA test teams and other test teams within NE&TO organization. This is done via a Strategy Statement of Work, which is used as an input to the development of Test Cases. This person is also responsible for working with the test planners to finalize the test planning for all T/QA test initiatives. This person is responsible for working with all test organizations and other upstream organizations to review and finalize the Test Strategy. Major Duties: • Review Feature and Functional Requirement Documents of Releases and Review Release Documentation from Vendors such as Test Plans and Test Results • Review Requirements and Design Documents for new Features and Projects. • Complete Impact Analysis based on Video Architecture, the interaction of different components and deployment of the features and releases. • Identify the Test Strategy and Approach for all NETO testing across different test organizations in terms of the type of testing to be done such as Regression Testing, Feature Testing, Performance Testing etc. and also the test organizations responsible for these test activities and document this as a Strategy Statement of Work, to ensure thorough test coverage. • Identify and document the Test Architecture including additions and changes to existing architecture as part of Strategy Statement of Work. • Finalize the scope of testing to identify the specific test cases if test plans are existing or work with the test planners to develop new test plans and test cases where necessary. • Understand Test Plans from upstream test organizations and vendors so that the Test Strategy can be more efficient to make use of the upstream testing and to avoid redundant testing • Conduct reviews with the test teams and other upstream organizations for Strategy Statement of Work • Participate in Business Requirements Documents / Technical Requirements Documents / Detailed Design Documents and Test Plans Reviews • Participate in Defects Review and Analysis and understand Root Cause Analysis of issues found during lab testing. • Participate in Root Cause Analysis of Production issues and based on this make necessary improvements to test strategy / scope of testing / test processes. • Be self-sufficient and drive the activities assigned to completion and also drive the testing for the different initiatives from Test Strategy perspective. • Be able to work independently to complete the activities assigned with no supervision and guidance most of the times and with occasional guidance • Develop in-depth knowledge of Comcast Video Architecture and Next Generation Video Technologies • Be a Subject Matter Expert in Comcast Voice Architecture • Be a good team player and work with a collaborative approach • Provide guidance and be a mentor for other junior team members. • Minimal travel may be required. • Carry a pager or cell phone 24x7. • Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills:
"EDUCATION: • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Computer Science or Equivalent. • Possession of industry recognized certification (CCNA, CCNP, CCVP, CCIE etc.) preferred. EXPERIENCE: • 5 to 10 years experience in the Testing and Quality Assurance of Video and Content Delivery Systems. • 3 to 5 years experience in Cable Service Testing, specifically in Test Planning and Test Case Development • Knowledgeable in Video Transport Technologies, Networking equipment and protocols (Switches, Routers, Security, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP), Motorola DAC, SA DNCS, VOD Equipment, CMTSes, and Settop Boxes. • Knowledge in Broadband networks, Digital Video Transmission and other Video technology is preferred • Proficient with Cable Labs DOCSIS, VOD and OpenCable Standards • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills are essential. • Ability to operate in a fast moving, team-oriented, collaborative environment, being ready to deliver with quality under aggressive schedules • Experience with MSOs is a plus."
