Engineer II - Commercial Messaging and Portal - Herndon, VA
"Job Summary: This individual will be a member of the Commercial Messaging & Portal systems team within the Product Engineering organization. This team operates Comcast's commercial hosted Exchange, SharePoint and private label web hosting products. This job involves the full range of activities necessary to deliver commercial hosted services on an end-to-end basis, from working with vendors, to developing new systems and network designs, implementing new designs, deploying new systems and software, performing day-to-day systems administration and operations activities, building or integrating reporting, monitoring, and analytics, etc. Major Duties: Function as a key member of the team responsible for the day-to-day, 24x7x365 on-call engineering, system administration, and operation of Comcast's HMC platform. Provide review and input into the design of new technical features and architecture changes to the messaging system. Perform Windows operating system installation, upgrades, patching, tuning, and troubleshooting on 100+ servers. Perform application software installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting, including Windows Cluster, Microsoft Exchange 2007, Microsoft Active Directory, SCOM, SQL Server, ADAM, CSF, MPS. Help maintain EMC SAN. Help maintain and troubleshoot Cisco switches, F5 SSL accelerators, and Foundry load balancers. Help develop and implement a capacity model, total cost of ownership model and augmentation plan for the platform. Participate directly in testing and planning to prepare for system upgrades. Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution activities with other support teams (e.g. network support, NOC, vendors). Produce Root Cause Analysis findings that focus on recommendations to learn from and avoid problem recurrence. Maintain productive relationships with peer organizations & vendors. Required Skills:
"At least 7 years supporting Microsoft Exchange in a large-scale enterprise or service provider environment. Expertise in Exchange 2007 architecture, server roles, and clustering models for a high-availability environment. Demonstrated experience with high-availability architecture design (clusters, SAN, failover systems) . Demonstrated, extensive knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, MOM/SCOM, SQL Server, ADAM, CSF, MPS. Strong DNS, IIS Server, SMTP and Mail Routing experience. Basic understanding of security and identity management technologies (Digital Certificates, LDAP, SSO, etc.). At least 5 years in-depth experience with IP networking (TCP/IP packet analysis, DNS, DHCP, NAT, etc.). Creation of VBScripts and PowerShell scripts to automate tasks and perform basic data analysis. Demonstrated ability to stay organized while multi-tasking between several projects, and to adapt to change. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills. Team player with professional work ethic and positive attitude. Demonstrated ability to produce results with a minimum of day-to-day direction. Demonstrated interest in continuing to grow professionally and learn new things. Desired Skills/Experience: Tools development in Perl, PHP, VBScript or similar languages. Experience operating or designing SQL databases (Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, etc.) Storage Area Network (SAN) experience (EMC, HDS, Brocade, FCIP, iSCSI, etc.) Experience managing servers remotely in a distributed environment. Experience operating and troubleshooting SMTP-based e-mail platforms. Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent in work experience and self-study.
