Data Center Engineer

Cogent Communications is seeking an enthusiastic professional to be the new Data Center Engineer at 4505 Glencoe in Marina del Rey, CA. This Data Center is manned 24x7x365. The Data Center Engineer opening we have is for the 2PM to 10PM, M-F shift. Applicant has to have experience in the Internet industry, specifically with data center operations. Person must be able to multi-task and project manage daily operations in the Marina del Rey Data Center.

Applicant’s main goal is to provide excellent service to Cogent’s colo customers. The applicant is responsible for every facet of the colocation.

He/She must have a knowledge of cabling and basic internet processes, as they will be required to perform various types of work orders, from 100meg orders to fiber x-connects.

He/she will be responsible for the daily upkeep of not only the colo, but also the facility itself. The Data Center Engineer will have to manage and update various Hosting Operations databases, spreadsheets, access badge systems, and other programs related to the colo.

An essential aspect of the job is to work with and manage contractors who will work within the facility, such as HVAC, Fire system, and Generator vendors. From billing issues to submitting purchase order requests, all contractor work in the Marina del Rey facility will be managed by he/she.

 

Listed below are some of the daily tasks required for the job:

 

-Provision Work Orders (Allocate cabinet, cross connect to circuit, test circuit, have electrician install special power if required)

-Work Remedy Tickets (For Access, Environmental Issues, etc.)

-Maintain DCDB (Cab/Rack inventory)

-Generate PO requests for PMs & repair work

-Manage/Schedule PM & repair work with vendors

-Update PO tracking sheet

-Maintain C*Cure access card database

-Open NMPs for maintenance and repair work

-Work on special projects when they arise (past projects- HVAC Augmentation, UPS Augmentation)

-Acquire/renew preventative maintenance contracts

-Manage Bi-monthly Generator test
