CONTROLLER & TREASURER
Job Description:
Growing, national wireless internet and telephone services provider seeks a Controller for one of its regional companies located on Maryland’s upper Eastern Shore.
The position reports to the General Manager (“GM”) at the local level, and to the Headquarters Controller.
The role carries primary responsibility for integrity of processes, preparation of financial statements, management support, and administration of US Rural Utilities Service loans. Significant elements include revenue, customer billing and collections, equipment purchases and orders; tracking and verifying inventory, capital spending and network build, fixed assets and depreciation; payables, cash forecasting, variance analysis, pricing analysis; and all accounting relative to US government loans.
Responsibilities
1. Execute and oversee monthly closes and present financial statements to GM, parent company, investors, and US Government agency lending officials.
2. Ensure financial integrity of assets and integrity and accuracy of reporting.
3. Plan, project, and manage short term and long term cash and liquidity needs, for both operations and capital expenditures, and manage investment account. Manage and forecast cash receipts and disbursements.
4. Execute and oversee customer billing, records, credit card processing (security and integrity), collections, reserves, recovery placements, and credit agency reporting to maximize competitive growth and customer retention, and minimize risk and loss of revenue.
5. Oversee purchase orders process, accounts payable and vendor/credit relationships.
6. Oversee capital investment program accounting: inventory, asset accounting, depreciation, and personal property tax issues.
7. Prepare budgets, variance analyses, and pricing analyses in support of management reporting and decision making, in compliance with Charles Street Partners (“CSP”) formats and practices.
8. Primary company liaison to auditors, including preparation of required work papers and reconciliations.
9. Contribute to, adhere to, and execute CSP policies and practices.
PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT AND OBJECTIVES: The Controller will be evaluated on:
- Integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial processes and reports
- Compliance with and contribution to CSP policies and practices
- Effectiveness of processes and systems in growing and retaining customers and protecting revenue
- Effectiveness in supporting the business’s operating processes (equipment purchases, network build, customer acquisition and service)
- Effectiveness of processes and results achieved in the value of US loan programs
- Effectiveness in supporting operating management and facilitating profitable growth
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, and five to ten years experience and growth leading to senior accounting responsibility. Experience with consumer credit card processes, recurring revenue businesses, and significant fixed asset capital spend program, tracking, and depreciation. Experience using spreadsheets, word processing and web-based programs. Experience with QuickBooks and MS Office preferred.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS: One accounting assistant.
