System Administrator
Network System Administrator will administer and maintain the network-based PC server and client systems. This person will understand the support needs of staff and students and ensure that they receive timely and adequate information and training. The outcome goal is to assist users in recognizing full benefit from the automation system, and to keep the system operational at all times.
The System Administrator reports to the Executive Director. The specific responsibilities of the System Administrator include, but are not limited to the following:
Responsibilities:
Planning
1. Work with the Executive Director, volunteers, and identified staff to determine the unique needs of the organization in maintaining and enhancing the
network system.
2. Write policies and procedures for administrative, program, and personal use of technology based on best practices for network systems and the uniqueness of operations.
3. Maintain log of service requests that are not dealt with on an immediate basis and respond to such requests on a pre-determined priority basis. Record and update the status of each request, including resources and time required for completion. Review and revise priorities with the Executive Director and/or other specified personnel as needed.
4. Work with software vendors to evaluate and coordinate the upgrade or replacement of software packages as needed.
Network Administration
1. Provide troubleshooting of desktop hardware and software, network hardware and software, and all peripherals.
2. Administration of desktop operating system, currently Windows 98, and the desktop office suite, currently Office 2000 Professional.
3. Administration of network operating system, Windows NT Advanced Server 3.51/4.0, including all applicable network services (file sharing, print services, RAS, etc.). Includes planning, implementation, and maintenance of the integrated network environment, desktop clients, file server, applications, and network services.
4. Make recommendations for software and hardware purchase and upgrades to the Executive Director as they become necessary.
5. Develop and maintain a Network Operations Manual documenting all network hardware and software in use.
6. Determine when third party services are necessary to achieve specific goals and coordinate efforts with them.
Initial Training and User Support
1. Provide user training and assistance in Windows, Microsoft Office Professional suite, and the overall network environment for all staff.
2. Be available to staff for one-to-one support as needed for individuals and offices to follow up classroom instruction.
3. Provide troubleshooting on-site immediately, if during the work day, or on off times, within 24 hours of request.
4. Develop orientation and network login procedures for new staff. Develop and administer a survey to establish technical skill level of new staff.
Ongoing Support, Training, and Follow up
1. Conduct user surveys to determine satisfaction of staff and students and share results and recommendations with Executive Director.
2. Identify and recommend to Executive Director those staff who could be trained as “skilled users” and serve as backup for troubleshooting.
3. Provide group and individualized training to staff as needed. Assist staff in making use of existing software and hardware to meet their needs.
4. Assist in database development and in implementation of information management tools as necessary.
Communications/Phone System Become proficient with DBS manager in order to initiate necessary additions, moves, and changes with stations. Inbound DID trunks to be tested weekly for line noise or open condition, and reported to Southwestern Bell with circuit ID’s.
3. The 10 inbound/outbound circuits are to be checked weekly for noise or distortion and reported to Southwestern Bell as necessary, with circuit ID. Generate a file for all circuit maintenance and trouble reports to Southwestern Bell.
Voice Mail
1. Be proficient with voice mail system.
2. Initiate new accounts, add or remove extensions and names when employees arrive or depart.
3. Interface with One Voice or other telephone vendors to insure capacity and efficiency at all times.
Raiser's Edge Data Base
1. Maintain regular backups of the Raiser's Edge Data Base
2. Validate Raiser's Edge Data Base on a weekly basis
3. Provide troubleshooting of Raiser's Edge system
4. Install and maintain upgrades from Raiser's Edge
5. Keep hardware requirements current for optimal Raiser's Edge usage
Internet & Webpage Administration
1. Ensure that the website is kept current.
2. Monitor access to the Internet for all residents and staff.
3. Coordinate with Executive Director, Development, and other staff departments to insure that our website is up to date.
4. Install and monitor filtering software to insure that staff and residents are not accessing undesirable websites.
5. Monitor our Internet Service Provider to insure that the website is functioning and accessible to the public.
Other Responsibilities
1. Provide backup and support for Computer Lab and staff, tutors, and students who work there.
2. Assist Coordinator of Computer Lab in organization of room and realignment of computers as needed.
3. Coordinate receipt of computer donations and document guidelines for acceptable donations.
4. Provide technical assistance to Development Department and others for special events.
Teamwork
Support other members of the team in carrying out organizational goals and activities.
All other duties as assigned.

1. Minimum five years experience in computer operations.
