Packaging Design Engineer
The Packaging Engineer works on commercial and development projects with technical writing, protocol and line trial execution, packaging materials testing, and trouble-shooting, of all packaging including the administration of the relevant supporting documentation. To accomplish this role, they must act as the primary contact both within the facility and for all packaging component suppliers for: all changes to components, analysis and assessment of new components, investigation and resolution of non-compliant components and/or production issues, new product development and regulatory documentation. The Packaging Engineer assumes the role of project leader for packaging component changes and ensures that technical support is provided to Product and Process Development, QA, Regulatory, and Operations for all matters concerning packaging components. Responsible for the development and coordination of a variety of packaging validation tasks in support of defined business objectives and department compliance requirements. 1. Specification creation 2. Change control 3. USP testing coordination 4. Distribution testing 5. Line trial and protocol creation and execution 6. Operations support 7. Packaging Engineer ensures timely and appropriate component and equipment improvements as well as component issue resolution in a timely manner, especially as they pertain to PR???s and corrective actions on PR???s. 8. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external (e.g. contract manufacturers and packagers) resources to ensure support in activities, tasks and issues pertaining to package development. 9. Contribute to the resolution of component issues (supply or function) in a timely manner. 10. Constantly assess opportunities for streamlining the documentation processes that impact components (CCR???s, PCS???s, Change Control, etc.). 11. Implement components that are of current, industry standard design, and are stock items whenever possible, to ensure favorable cost and timely, reliable supply. 12. Insure that component issues are resolved in a timely manner to minimize production downtime. 13. Assist in the yearly performance targets as agreed with supervisor and through effective use of department budget, identifying efficiencies and cost savings where appropriate. 14. Maintain HS&E awareness and culture. 15. Responsible for the development and coordination of a variety of packaging validation tasks in support of defined business objectives and department compliance requirements. Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Engineering preferred and 1 to 3 years experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position requires the ability to think in high level terms, when participating in strategic planning activities and also in very specific detailed terms when problem solving packaging line and packaging component issues.
