Director of Project Portfolio Management

The purpose of this job is to plan, lead, and coordinate the activities of the Project Portfolio Management team.  This team has overall responsibility for managing the portfolio of corporate projects.  This includes facilitating capacity planning, opportunity alternatives analysis, and the opportunity selection process.  This team is also responsible for managing both departmental and corporate project budgets.  Reporting on all the above activities is a key responsibility.

 

Day to day, you will:

 

1. Lead the Project Portfolio Management team by performing the following:

· Lead the definition and/or refinement of the organization’s project portfolio management processes

· Manage departmental and corporate project budgets

· Manage the reporting of budget compliance for corporate projects

· Develop and/or refine an enterprise-wide capacity planning model

· Work with project queue owners to conduct alternatives analysis for additions of new projects to the project portfolio

· Present the results of the alternatives analysis to the executive leadership team

· Work with business and information services executives and directors to define project bundling/cohort strategies to align with enterprise capacity, strategy, and business cycles

· Report on the status of and changes to the composition of the project portfolio

 

2. Support staff management, reporting, and administrative functions such as coaching, staff career planning & development, compliance reporting, and customer outreach

 

3. Perform other duties as assigned

 

4. Manage 2- 5 direct reports

 

5. Have a budget responsibility of $.25M to $1.5M

 

Does this sound like an exciting challenge?  To qualify for the opening, you will need to have the following:

 

· Bachelor’s Degree a must and a Master’s Degree preferred

· 12 years of professional work experience of which (a) 6 years include experience in Project Portfolio Management and (b) 5 years include supervisory experience.

· Experience in the management of portfolios of projects with budgets greater than $10M

· Experience in capacity planning and modeling

· Experience engaging with both technical and business teams

· A stable career track record

· Health Care insurance experience preferred

· Experience working with executive and c-level audiences

· Strong analytical skills

· Strong relationship building skills

· Strong political, negotiation, organization, presentation, writing, and facilitation skills

·  Proficiency with the Microsoft Office family of tools (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
