Our construction client, located in Geneva, Ohio, is looking for an experienced Controller with construction experience and knowledge.
Â
The controller is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the accounting functions, including establishing and maintaining the organization’s accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure achievement of business plans. The controller is responsible for developing staff and systems to support rapid growth while continuing profitability, to preserve the Company’s assets, to measure the organization’s performance and to focus attention on risks and opportunities to improve performance. The controller will also be responsible for analyzing financial and cost information, preparing financial reports, and present findings and recommendations to top management.  The controller must also establish and recommend to management, major corporate economic strategies, objectives, and policies for Company.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Â
Responsibility:Â Financial Reporting
·        Ensure all transactions are accurately captured in the accounting system and the monthly closings are performed timely.
·        Report in a timely, accurate, comprehensive and easy-to-use manner the Company’s financial conditions and communicate those results to management.
·        Prepares and reviews monthly operating results including work in progress and budget variance analysis.
·        Develop appropriate analyses of operations in order to pinpoint both problem areas and opportunities to improve operations or increase profitability.
·        Functions as the principal source of information to the President, including the financial status of specific projects.
·        Performs the accounting functions for other related entities.
·        Participates and presents financial results at quarterly.

Responsibility:Â Cost and Project Accounting
·        Maintains the Work in Progress schedule and Job Cost schedules for each project.
·        Preparation of job costs reports and analysis, including job profitability forecasts, productivity data and trend analysis
·        Must have the ability to know and understand what information is needed and how it should be presented in order to assist the project managers with monitoring and managing the profitability of each project.
·        Manage information flow from the project managers in order to timely up date project financial status and prepare progress reports for the President.
·        Direct and monitor the procedures used for cost benefit analysis, and post project audits to ensure that the Company’s primary objectives are met.
·        Maintain fixed asset records.

Responsibility:Â Billings
·        Read and understand construction contracts and ensure compliance with those contracts.
·        Review awarded projects prior to contract signing and obtain insurance certificates and bonding, if required.
·        Timely and accurate invoicing to customers within 24 hours of the receipt of information necessary to generate an invoice. Influence, impact and facilitate gathering of the appropriate information. Monitoring time lags in order to ensure the process remains timely.

Responsibility:Â Cash Management
·        Review cash forecasts for accuracy and make needed changes. Project ongoing cash needs of the company based on project schedules.
·        Monitor and manage the various corporate accounts and recommend cash transfers as needed.
·        Minimize cash held in non-interest bearing accounts, and maximize interest yields on excess cash balances.

Responsibility:Â Budgets
·        Assist in the development of guidelines; then coordinate, direct and assist in the preparation of budgets and related supplemental schedules including, but not limited to, cash flow projections, fixed overhead budgets, capital purchases, capital projects and analysis of projection to current year's actual.
·        Develop and monitor an expense budget which allows for the successful achievement of the business plan while servicing the needs of the Company.
·        Communicate budget to appropriate management personnel at least two months prior to the commencement of the fiscal year.
