Director of Community Programs

Asphalt Green, a premier, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) sports and fitness center, designs and operates a broad range of programs to bring an informed fitness approach to all New Yorkers, irrespective of age, income, physical condition, ethnicity or athletic ability.  We are a much valued public/private New York City institution located on 5.5 acres between Manhattan’s Upper East Side and East Harlem.  Asphalt Green operates under a management agreement in which the City retains ownership of the buildings and land.   Please see our website www.asphaltgreen.org for additional information on the facility.

We are now poised to leverage our experience, positioning and expertise to impact on the health and fitness of low-income populations, with emphasis on children and youth, on a significantly larger scale.  To accomplish our goal of creating broader service delivery systems to provide greater access and opportunities for underserved populations, Asphalt Green is establishing a Department of Community Programs.  Reporting to the Senior Program Director, the Director of Community Programs will be charged with the following key functions:

·  coordinating and growing our learning models with an emphasis on children and youth;

·  creating new sustainable partnerships to help other organizations provide effective, informed fitness services;

·  creating an outcomes framework that will enable us and our partners to manage milestones and measure success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In coordination with Asphalt Green executive and program staff, the Director will design a comprehensive community programs plan that builds and expands upon present activities. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

·  Lead and manage the creation of the new Department of Community Programs.

·  Supervise and train community program staff as appropriate.

·  Assess effectiveness of existing on and off-campus community programs and strengthen capacity to perform in-house program evaluations.

·  Create the necessary linkages with staff across Asphalt Green so as to share information and methodologies between fee-based programs and community programs.

·  Develop sustainable community partnerships that expand the breadth and potential funding base of Asphalt Green’s programming.

·  Establish effective collaborative affiliations with local public schools, youth agencies, senior centers and other community based organizations in New York City.

·  Work closely with the Marketing and Development Departments to increase support for community programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·  An exceptional record of accomplishment in not-for-profit community programming including successful and innovative program planning, development and oversight.

·  Knowledgeable about the disparities in access to sports and fitness as they impact on overall health.

·  Highly visible and effective spokesperson across a broad range of constituencies, institutions and organizations.

·  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated executive capabilities, high energy enthusiasm, and commitment to underserved communities.

·  BA/BS required.  An advanced degree in a field such as public health or nonprofit management is preferred.

Candidates may direct their resume to Jeanne Yoa-Reese Director of Human Resources at aghr@asphaltgreen.org .
