Deputy Director of Public Safety - NYU Abu Dhabi
Description:New York University, the largest private university in the United States, is seeking qualified applicants for the newly created position of Deputy Director of Public Safety; NYU Abu Dhabi. The Deputy Director will be a direct report to New York University Vice President for Public Safety. The NYUAD Institute is slated to open in 2009 and will serve as the initial research and academic site in advance of the completion of the first comprehensive liberal-arts campus abroad developed by a major U.S. research university in Abu Dhabi. It is anticipated that the Institute will have a population of over 200 student, faculty and staff. Candidates should have a strong commitment to public safety, and to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse student and employee population.Position Summary:The Deputy Director will provide senior leadership in directing a full service twenty-four-hour-seven-day week Public Safety department in Abu Dhabi. The position must provide open communication and progressive leadership in the development and implementation of a comprehensive safety and crime prevention program for the benefit of University's students, faculty, staff, visitors and physical assets. The Deputy Director must have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, and consistently be available to respond to campus emergencies during non business hours. International travel is an expected part of this position.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Assume command and perform the functions of the Deputy Director Of Public Safety for the Institute; - Manage the Human Resources for the department to include interviewing prospective candidates for Public Safety positions and background checks, make recommendations to include compensation, compensation and resource deployment - Provide oversight of the relevant labor relations agreements, including employee/labor relations issues, grievance procedures and progressive disciplinary matters- Provide direct supervision of Supervisory staff responsible for Public Safety operations, crime prevention, ID card services, security technology and parking/transportation.- Plan, develop and implement systems and procedures to improve the overall safety and security of the University campus community and assets- Assist with the annual development and maintenance of the budget for the department- Oversee the payroll process for the department to include the accuracy of timesheets and their approval- Create and maintain strong relations with individual department and, senior leadership within the campus and with off campus community and governmental agencies.- Assist with the development of reports and presentations for Senior University leadership, and programs including orientations for students and staff
