American Apparel, an innovative and fast-growing clothing manufacturer and retailer in Downtown Los Angeles, is looking for a talented User Interface Designer to work on our web team. We need someone who is a designer, information architect, and usability guru. You must be driven to create great web experiences that are easy to understand, compelling, and functional.

As a User Interface Designer you must embody a blend of art and science and have a passion for building structures and visual systems that make complicated tasks clear and efficient. You will collaborate with designers, writers, project managers, web developers and application developers. You must be exceedingly detail oriented - to the point obsession. You must be willing to go the extra mile and driven to not just do a good job, but to do a GREAT JOB.

Responsibilities:

Assume lead design responsibility for the information architecture and user interface design of internally developed applications and online services
Work from preliminary concepts to construct IA and use case scenarios
Develop wireframes and zone template diagrams
Prepare creative concepts and assist in the testing and validation of concepts
Build a comprehensive UI styleguide to creative a cohesive approach to interface

Requirements:

Minimum 3-5 yrs of user interface design experience
Skilled in conceptual layout, with the ability to design simply with Swiss influence and an emphasis on clean type solutions
Expert familiarity with web design and development
Expert familiarity with e-commerce, content management, and database-driven applications
Strong portfolio of proven IA/UI successes
Highly skilled in Photoshop with hands on experience in ImageReady, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, and HTML
Strong English communication skills, but fluency in another language is preferred: Spanish, French, German, Italian, or Japanese.
