TITLE: Systems Engineer III. - (Data Storage Systems) / TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) AdministratorDEPT: IT Enterprise Storage*This position can be located in either Eden Prairie, MN or Boise, ID Primary Responsibilities:Responsible for the administration and maintenance of an enterprise data backup infrastructure.General description:Backup Administrators and Engineers understand, deploy, and manage backup software and hardware following industry standards and best practice methods. They demonstrate a strong technical aptitude and proven problem solving skills. They establish and maintain working relationships with peers and constituents at all levels and functions of the organization. They develop and tune a backup infrastructure to maximize backup and recovery performance and minimize disruption to the business. All members of this Job Family must have a habit of ongoing learning. Backup engineers must also demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Backup Engineers automate manual processes and find ways to make backups and recovery more reliable and cost effective.Backup Administration and Engineering technical skills include data backup technologies, protocols and topologies and how to deploy them. Experience with enterprise class backup products and tape automation technologies are strongly preferred at entry. A successful Backup Engineer will have a good understanding of general storage concepts, including fibre channel, SAN, NAS, and networking concepts and solid fundamentals in UNIX, Linux and/or Wintel operating systems. A college degree, preferably in a computer related field, will be considered strong evidence of technical aptitude and learning habits.Required experience: 3-5 years work experience in computer operations and administration, specifically including file and database backup and recovery, and disaster recovery. Required: Minimum 3 years of Administration experience with Tivoli Storage Mgr (TSM) or Veritas NetBackup or ARCserv.Required skills: Must be familiar with basics of system administration in at least one version of unix (including linux) and/or Microsoft Windows. Must understand basics of client/server processes. Must be able to read and understand scripts in perl, Java, or native scripting languages. Must be familiar with backup and recovery concepts. Must be able to write scripts in perl, Java, or native languages. Must be able to diagnose problems and recommend solutions. Must understand disaster recovery concepts. Must have basic understanding of TSM, NDMP and LAN Free backups. Common tasks:Install, and configure client backup software. Document installations completed, problems encountered, and resolutions accomplished. Monitor backups for completeness using company standard tools. Correct simple problems following documented procedures. Watch for common server errors such as out of tape conditions, or tape drives out, and try to correct them following documented procedures. Log activities and changes. Bring recognized procedural failures to the attention of senior members of the group. Recognize why documented processes don't work and suggests alternatives and fixes. Write scripts to automate simple tasks. Perform disaster recovery and bare metal restores in conjunction with the appropriate operating system administrators. Diagnose connectivity, security, protocol and performance issues following documented processes. Document changes in a manner consistent with SUPERVALU’s change management processes.Develop tactical solutions for current backup and recovery problems using existing hardware and software. Mentor Backup Administrators in backup and recovery, disaster recovery, and system administration tasks and concepts. Create technical documents for new processes. Create training documents for people who use the backup and recovery services. Automate complex processes. Audit existing client and server monitors for completeness and correctness.
