POSITION:  Technical Specialist

GROUP:   Architecture & Engineering



 

A position is available within the MVS Technical Services team. MVS Technical Services is responsible for support of the Z/OS (MVS) Operating system and associate third party vendor products. This is an intermediate to senior level Tech Support position. Primary responsibilities are to support the installation, maintenance of Z/OS software and hardware components.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

Ø Installation, maintenance and support of assigned Z/OS Products.

Ø Develop and maintain project plans for the design, development, implementation, and rollout of new systems or enhancements to existing production systems.

Ø Perform new or change technical definition for systems of any size and complexity working along with user representatives independently.

Ø Proficient in the use of Z/OS JCL and utilities

Ø Strong understanding of Z/OS structures, JES2, SMP/E, ISPF, Z/OS console commands, Sysplex architecture, HCD, use of HMC,

Ø Demonstrated proficiency in the use of IBM and Third Party Software Vendor Service and Support

Ø Performance and Capacity Planning using RMF Data

Ø Provide Leadership in the resolution of complex hardware and software problems involving multiple products and one or more platforms. Provides expert guidance in the resolution of application and performance issues. Drives others toward resolution in a timely fashion.

Ø Provides advanced, second and third-level technical support to the Support Center, Computer Operations, and Mainframe Application development teams in the resolution of complex problems spanning multiple products and platforms. Designs and implements long-term fixes to reduce the number of incidents.

Ø Provides leadership to other Technical Services associates.

Ø Lead and assist other personnel on project related activities.

Ø Continually self-educate, using training classes and various publications and periodicals, in order to stay current with technology and system development methodologies.

Ø Maintain Project Status Database and Time Tracking.

Ø Provide requirements, time lines and cost estimates to project managers.

 

 

Job Requirements:

 

Ø 5+ years Systems Administration of IBM mainframe and z/OS experience.

Ø Bachelor Degree in IS&S, Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

Ø Skilled using Microsoft Desktop Products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Ø Programming skills using languages such as REXX, SAS, PL/I, COBOL, Assembler Language

Ø Strong oral and written communications skills, with experience in writing technical procedures.

Ø Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.

Ø Good analytical abilities.

Ø Extensive understanding of IT Best Practices.

Ø Off-hour pager support

Ø Ability to travel independently as needed.  Minimal travel for this position.
