Co-Manager Overview
We are recruiting for Store Management Trainees/Co-Managers for our stores in Indiana and Illinois. Required Results
· Achievement of continuing development in all phases of store operation to prepare for future assignments.
· Achievement of sales and cost control to obtain gross and net profit budgets for assigned departments of the store.
· Achievement of a supply of effectively trained and promotable people for assigned departments, who perform at a satisfactory or above level.
· Achievement of proper operation of assigned departments giving full support to division merchandising plans, recognizing and supporting Company and division union contracts, policies, and practices.
· Achievement of building favorable customer and employee image of assigned department that furthers Kroger's reputation as the best merchandiser in the retail food industry.
· Achievement of acceptable level of supply expense and other store-related costs, as outlined by the division.
· Achievement of acceptable performance on the Sanitation Checklist, as set forth by the division.
· Maintenance of required records and reports
· Conduct effective store walks daily to assure great store conditions by engaging with associates, interacting with customers, observing associate behavior and utilizing the five elements of store walks:
o Initial quick walk
o Detailed walk
o Fresh at 5:00 walk
o Pass the baton walk
o Systems and routines walk
Major Activities
· Develops and implements plans for achieving departmental objectives and business plans.
· Follows through on sales plans in full support of division merchandising programs.
· Plans and carries out in-store promotions and interdepartmental tie-ins to maximize sales and create a selling atmosphere.
· Establishes and maintains effective inventory control methods in all departments.
· Controls ordering; avoids overstocks; supports administration.
· Require, through proper supervision, effective pricing of merchandise.
· Ensures freshness of product by closely adhering to rotation and dating policy.
· Schedules and organizes work force consistent with store sales and union contract.
· Controls departmental expenses such as wages, utilities, wrapping supplies, etc.
· Assists in the selection, indoctrination, training, and development of departmental personnel, utilizing division training programs.
· Plans and conducts weekly meetings with department personnel.
· Supervises Sanitation Program in compliance with division standards.
· Administers safety and fire prevention programs as directed by division Loss Prevention Department.
· Is familiar with and works within the framework of labor contracts in stores.
· Keeps Unit Manager informed of all activities within own areas of responsibility.
· Instructs in the proper use of store equipment to ensure safety standards are accomplished.
· Works closely with department heads, keeping them informed of matters, which affect them and their performance, both individually and departmentally.
· Maintains a self-development program to improve own personal knowledge, skills and abilities in order to continue to upgrade own contributions to the store.
· Handles customer complaints quickly and efficiently in order to achieve customer satisfaction.
· Maintains security (cash handling, shoplifting, theft).
· Supports and works to achieve equal employment opportunities and promotions for minorities and females.
· Carries out assignments made by the Unit Manager.
· Assumes responsibility for the store in absence of the Unit Manager.
Special Development Assignments
· Rotation of departmental assignments.
· Develops and executes plans: in-store merchandising, shrink control, acceptable pricing, expense control, front-end control, customer acceptance, Kroger Manufactured Product and Kroger Labeled Product sales, safety, store cleanliness, scheduling of personnel, analysis of operating statement, study of competition, determination of store's sales potential, etc.
· Continuous education through the Management Development 2 Program
Minimum Qualifications
· Must be Customer Service Oriented.
· Should be goal oriented and self-disciplined.
· Must be able to direct existing projects with little management direction.
· Leadership skills are required.
· Good problem solving and organizational skills are required.
· Good verbal and written communication skills are required.

About the Central Marketing Area
The Central Marketing Area division is headquartered in Indianapolis and consists of well over 150 stores, several manufacturing plants, and distribution centers spread throughout IN, IL, MO, MI, and OH. There are 109 stores in Indiana, 38 in Illinois, 5 Missouri stores, 1 each in Michigan and Ohio. Our division is comprised of ten zones or districts. We also cover the Indianapolis Warehouse, Kroger Bakery, Crossroads Farms Dairy, and the Shelbyville Distribution Center.
