PetSmart is an Equal Opportunity EmployerWith many positions offering relocation packages, learn more about Life in PhoenixJob Responsibilities: This position requires a broad working knowledge and experience base in employment law including working to resolve matters with governmental agencies such as the Dept. of Labor and the EEOC, as well as state counterpart agencies. Qualified candidate will assist with gathering data, investigating and writing position statements in response to EEOC claims. Candidate will have experience writing solid professional position statements with minimal supervision. Candidate must also be able to partner with HR professionals to address and resolve employee relations matters at the store and distribution center level. The successful candidate should have a proven track record of being able to manage multiple matters at once, with demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication, and strong understanding the importance of data integrity and confidentiality. Additionally, this position requires high performance under pressure, and an ability to relay and receive information from lawyers and non-lawyers. This position also regularly facilitates efficiencies to streamline and improve business and department processes. Qualifications: EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Paralegal certificate, from an ABA approved program, or equivalent experience; a Bachelor Degree; and a minimum of 5-7 years experience as a paralegal or legal assistant at a law firm preferred, with significant corporate experience related to the essential duties above; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience preparing position statements and defending agency charges is required. TECHNICAL SKILLS •Advanced understanding of various employment laws, discrimination laws and wage and hour laws. •Strong proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Word and Lexis-Nexis. •Solid proficiency with computer based systems. •Ability to assist in developing and implementing training to business clients. •Ability to conduct legal research. •Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously. •Strong attention to detail and appreciation for data integrity. •Ability to read, analyze and interpret, personnel data, company policies and procedures, professional journals, technical procedures, legal documents, governmental regulations and case law. •Ability to investigate, gather data, and write position statements and other correspondence in defense of Company positions. •Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. In addition, the ability to effectively speak and present to business partners is required. •Strong project management leadership skills with the ability to assist in implementing execution strategies and methodologies appropriate for a retail services environment is preferred. •Ability to interface successfully with all levels of management within PetSmart and with outside legal professionals.
