Senior Programmer – Visual Basic
Job Summary:
The Senior Programmer is responsible for analysis, design, coding, testing, documenting and supporting new and existing applications. The Senior Programmer will identify issues and make modifications to current systems and software according to departmental standards. The successful candidate will provide support and customization for a variety of Yankee Candle Company applications. This position will also be responsible for aiding the DBA in creating valid test data for new and existing applications. Lastly, the position will respond to help desk tickets or inquiries regarding application malfunctions in a timely and thorough manner and take part in multiple projects, among other responsibilities as assigned.
Scope:
The Senior Programmer will build or modify applications based on the design specifications provided by the Analyst or assist business partners with troubleshooting issues with existing applications. The successful candidate must document all findings, modifications and application relevant data. This position is responsible for an on call rotation for support of applications.
Responsibilities: Provide support and customization for all current Yankee Candle Company Applications (Financials, Supply Chain, Procurement, Warehouse Management, Forecasting and Planning, Reporting suites). Assist in the development cycle of applications by creating database and application specifications for existing and new applications. Build applications based on design specifications provided by Analyst. Offer Analysts feedback on potential problems or opportunities for enhancements to current design specifications. Identify and make modifications to current systems and software according to departmental standards. Provide the IS Management team with time estimates and requirements for completion of each project. Aid the Database Administrator in creating valid test data for new and existing applications. Create testing and migration procedures to ensure seamless integration of new applications or databases. Provide the end user community with the documentation and training required for them to complete their duties in the most competent manner possible. Maintain a current knowledge of developments in database and programming technologies. Assist Information Systems Personnel in supporting all Yankee Candle Systems and Software. Provide on-call support (nights/weekends) for applications; discretion required for sensitive information.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree (preferably Management Information Systems or Computer Science) or equivalent experience required. 2+ years experience of Visual Basic 6, Visual Basic.NET, and Biz Talk required. Java experience a plus 2+ years experience with SQL writing as well as familiarity of PL/SQL and Oracle required. Comfortable working in an object oriented design environment a must. Ability to work nights/weekends as necessary to meet project timelines and production support required. Above average oral and written communications and listening skills. Superior analytical and problem solving skills required.

Hours:
First Shift, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Flexibility in work schedule is required including the ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as operational need may require.
